[h=3]Come and enjoy the unique, quaint and family fun of "old Florida" during our Kumquat Festival™ in historic downtown Dade City - it's one of a kind!!![/h] The Dade City Chamber of Commerce has established a flagship event that celebrates everything that makes Dade City unique while encouraging visitors to participate. Since the nearby town of St. Joseph was already known as the Kumquat Capital of the World, the Chamber of Commerce decided that this little fruit with a funny name could be the focus of an annual festival.
As many as 40,000 people attend our one day event every year, with over 350 vendors participating, filling our historic Downtown core. Here, visitors can enjoy all kinds of tasty kumquat treats, from kumquat pie to kumquat cookies, smoothies, ice cream, marmalade, and even kumquat salsa.
Dade City's Annual Kumquat Festival™ , held the last Saturday in January each year, has become extremely popular for its homegrown, family-friendly entertainment. Visitors can listen to local entertainment, get their face painted, look at antique cars, and shop for arts and crafts. There are also 5k and 10k races/walks and a recipe contest where you can invent or re-invent your favorite dishes using kumquats. Participants recipes will be published in our Kumquat Festival™ Cookbook, available for sale at the festival. Our BBQ Dinner and Kumquat Growers' Open House are part of the festivities that round out our Kumquat Festival™ month in January.
The Dade City Chamber of Commerce utilizes the Kumquat Festival™ to highlight the Dade City and East Pasco County area. It is also an excellent opportunity for local businesses, schools, and non-profits to promote themselves. Many of our visitors come back after the Festival to see the Historic Courthouse and experience more of everything there is to enjoy in downtown Dade City.
One of the most charming stories to emerge from the Kumquat Festival™ is the story of regular visitors Regina Polsky and Jerry Witts. They met each other the first time they visited the Kumquat Festival™. They soon fell in love, and five years later announced that they were getting married. They told the Chamber that they wanted a private wedding service performed by a notary; but Lucy Avila, then a staff member, felt that they deserved a full-blown wedding. She recruited local businesses to help out in any way they could. They provided everything from flowers to kumquat pie. The wedding was held in the Courthouse Square and the couple was escorted to the wedding by trolley. Together, the entire community gave Regina and Jerry a romantic, unforgettable wedding with a distinct Dade City touch. We enjoy seeing Regina and Jerry each year as the come back to the festival to celebrate their anniversary.

Bump for Saturday.
It's my understanding that the race car reunion and memorabilia will have no admission charge to
spectators.

The regular car cruisein meet will be held at the historic courthouse from 3PM to 8PM.-Bob

As it turned out, the race car reunion was mostly drag racers,
and a few dirt trackers, a few Citrus County and other asphalt oval
racers. There were some good vintage racing photos. I didn't realize that
over time there had been so many tracks around the bay area.

I got a few autographs and got on their mailing list for the next reunion.
The lot was Full of drag race cars including two special ThunderBolt Factory Fords
from two separate classes.....and my humble Honda....

I had only seen one Thunderbolt.....ever.

I talked with Tim Kitchen about a vintage replica/restoration of a Fireball Roberts/Ralph Moody
Daytona Beach speed record car that he is working on. There are only two of those and the other one was
sold for $300,000 at auction.....and no one now knows where it is. Too bad.-Bob
