I have driven through many puddles and fierce Florida rainstorms with my CAI and I have no bypass or hydroshield and I have never hydrolocked my engine.... Maybe I'm just lucky?

wouldnt you have to literally drive through a foot of water for that to happen? i mean, rain shouldnt be bad for it only puddles.
im gonna wait and hear what john has to say about it

UPDATE: well It rained heavy here today and I was curious to see how wet my cold air filter got. WELL I was shocked when I pulled the bumper off to see a filter dripping wet , so I immediatley went back to my short ram. I do miss the power of the CAI , there's definitley a difference but hydrolocking my engine is not an option.
Now when I pulled the filter off I didn't see any water in the tube, I guess the filter would have to be completley submerged in water to hydro lock.
I even have full fender/engine/undercarrage splash guards.
What I THINK? possibly happened was when I opened the hood water dripped down into the section behind the bumper. Maybe that's how the filter got wet.
Mobius does your filter get wet at all??? How low is your CAI?
I really wanna put my CAI back on because there is quite a drastic difference in performance , but the wet filter made me freak. My short ram is almost worthless unless you dump the pedal all the way.
Honestly if you going the short ram route save your money and put it into a future turbo build. Safe reliable power , that's would I would do if I had to do it again.
Maybe JOHN could help us to have a CAI and protect from H20 damage.

The only way to hydrolock your motor would be to submerge the filter in water. Spray from the wheels etc. will not do it. Hope that helps

Yeah my CAI sat just behind the bumper, the filter did get splashed water. I'm gonna have to check the bumper seal . I do have all stock oem splash guards.
If your filter is completley dry that certainly could explain never getting H20 damage.
So the splashed water is ok? I might just put my CAI back on.
Actually I put my stock intake back on (del sol)
Removed the resonator box and cut the pipe exiting just behind the bumper.
So in essense I now have CAI because the OEM filter is drawing air from behind the bumper out side the engine bay , but the filter is still in stock location. Does that make sense? On the del sol the air is actually drawn from the area behind the bumper in a cold location , so I just removed resonator the box and left about 8 inches or so of the pipe.
Sorry John if where littering your threads with OT stuff.Last edited by KSDJ1; 06-05-2009 at 01:23 AM.

Put my CAI back on , and going with the AEM dry filter since its hydrophobic ,drove through heavy rain today lots of small puddles , no problems.

The only way you will pull water up the intake to your motor is to completely submerge the filter, Spray from your wheel wont be enough to worry about, however it will decrease the life of the filter.
