nitrous on stock motor
i got a stock d17a2 and im thinkin about running nitrous for now till i have money for k swap, but i was wondering what would be the highest shot i can run safely? i dont wanna blow it up, and i heard something about the timing to turn it retard ? now im not really a person that would normally run nitrous i personly dont like it but the car is wayyyyy too slow and ppl have told me just spray it. or should i just leave it stock and save up?

I'd just leave it stock and save. Even a second hand kit will cost you around 300+. Besides, on a stock ECU and motor, most engines can only hold up to a 75 shot from what I've seen (some may do more, I dunno). But for something like that, I wouldn't bother. I'd post this in honda tech for a more precise answer on what it could handle, though I'm sure a few minutes with a google search would turn up the answer as well.
And if you do spray it, read up a LOT on nitrous before doing it. You don't seem to know a whole lot about it, and trusting your dumb ass friends with your motor is never a good idea.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

Buy a decent camshaft that will work with stock valvetrain and drop it in. Safest, most reliable way to get another 30ish hp. Assuming you have intake/exhaust.

Safe rule of thumb is to spray half as much as what the motor makes stock. Pull back the timing a bit, run premium and get colder plugs. Be sure to have a bottle warmer and a WOT switch.

Just be ready to blow the welds on your intake

Nitrous isn't full time power so I would just save up for that k swap and tell the people you talked to, to stop watching fast and furious.

How does that even happen? It's a plastic manifold, not a balloon. It will burst into a hundred pieces if you have a nitrous backfire but it's not going to swell. Plenty of guys run boost and/or nitrous on plastic manifolds.
This looks pretty real.

That's what window and tps switches are for.Last edited by HeavyChevy3800; 09-16-2011 at 06:19 PM.
