gas tank issues-help please
well i just picked up a hatch and the fuel pump was bad and when i pulled it out it was all rusted. Car was sitting for about 3 months, so i was told. The gas smells like crap tho and doesnt smeel good. has about quarter tank in it. I put 6 gallons of 93 in there along with octane booster and fuel injector cleaner. I changed the fuel filter cuz the old one when i flipped it had brown crap coming out. well i took off the gas line to the fuwl rail and turned the key. car squirted gas out fluent and nice and ther was nothingi nthe gas. Should i be worried about the tank at all or just ride it out and see wat happens?
anything wil help.
thank you
chris

Yes the tank needs to be replaced. Don't risk it unless is just a beater you don't care about.

Fuel does go stale. Have you tried cleaning the tank? Is it salvageable at all? If you have rust holes in your tank that sucks.

that rust is normal just use a magnet and clean it out..3months is not that long but if you hav any doubts you can drain the tank easy there is a bolt on it to drain like a oil pan..

I'd be more worried about the condition of the tank. You can stick a large magnet down in there and have the magnet taped to a stick. Swish the magnet around for a little while and it will collect quite a bit of the stuff. We went and bought 5 gallons of 87 octane and kept swishing it around and dumping it out until the gas came out clean.
