Valve Stem Seals

so on a few "how-to's" i was reading, they say there are two sets of valve stem seals. one's with silver springs and one's with black springs, silver being intake, black being exhaust. (two different internal diameters) however the set of Fel-Pro's i just bought from autozone ARE ALL FUCKING SILVER!!! ...so are they supposed to be and the write-ups are wrong? and how do you tell the different diameters? other then a micrometer which i don't own.

alright, one more thing i heard that when doing this it's a good idea to put each cylinder at BDC and pressurize the cylinder so the valves stay in place, but can't you just put it at TDC and not worry about it?

your going to do it with the head on the car?if so its a bitch trust me...but you put the cyl at top dead but you dont have to pressure it cause you need the valve to fall or you can get to the seal.. from me take the head off unless its a sohc then you maybe able to..but what i do is let the valve fall to the piston then turn the crank till the valve head is low to pop off the seal then make sure when you put the new one on you have a LONG DEEP 11mm sockest to tap the seal in i do 3 taps on each then when done pull the valves up and then TDC then pressure so you can install the spring and locks

yeah it's on the motor. this is sounding like a pain in the ass.... if i can get the cash to take it too CFT to get it rebuilt soon i may just do that and let it sit. it's my DD but i can hitch rides with friends till then.

well if you get the head off its very easy to do..just place the head on your carpet roll up 2 socks tight"crap socks"stick them in the chamber get a 18mm socket with a 6"ex. place it on each retainer and hit with a hammer about 4 hits should undo the locks when you do all 4 then move the socks to the next chamber and so on
