Any thoughts on Natural Gas Power Conversions..
They are opening a Natural Gas station in Clearwater...
So, I figured I'd look into the conversion for one of my car for the hell of it.
What do you all think about the conversions...

I'm not sure what the benefits are other than cleaner emissions. Let us know what you find out!

What does this mean? better mileage.. that makes no sense, your comparing a pressurized gas to a liquid fuel..
less Dollars per mile. yes,
It's explained in reference to a Civic GX
So the only way to compare "fuel economy" is to calculate cost per mile. For example, Consumer Guide averaged 28.5 mpg on a Civic LX with automatic. With gasoline at $4.00 per gallon, that equals about 14 cents per mile. By contrast, we drove 115.7 miles in our test GX, and the cost to fill it was only $6.49--or about 5.6 cents per mile. Thus, with gas at $4.00 per gallon, we got the cost equivalent of 71.3 mpg on our test GX. If the price of gasoline were at $3.00 per gallon, the GX would have gotten the cost equivalent of 53.5 mpg. At $5.00 per gallon, it would cost the same per mile as a gasoline-powered car getting 89 mpg. Therefore, assuming the price of natural gas stays the same, the higher the price of gasoline, the better the GX's cost-equivalent mpg.
Natural gas from TECO is a bit pricey and it's delivered at low pressure, most systems run at 3000 or 3600psi... so unless you have a pump near you.. which you don't because the closest public station to tampa is 186 miles away. you need to compress it...
there is a system called a fuel-maker. their home unit was $4900 and uses about 8 kwh to fill the car up.. calculate economy with all factors..
I don't feel like doing the math. but your allready @6-7 cents per mile just amortizing the cost of the fueling center over 100,000 miles and adding the electric.
the math gets better if there is a station.

Too much effort to convert. Even if gas is more expensive now what happens when people convert to natural gas? Prices go up on natural gas and down on gasoline?
If it ain't broke I still want to fix it

my 2 cents
1im thinking it may loose 15 % of the engine hp
2fuel wont go stale or get water in it
3if you run out put the spare tank in and your done like a fork lift
4if you run your spare out your gunna need a tow
5propane is very close right ? i bet you could sub propane if needed and get it any where
6convert price i bet would not be to bad if some of your stock stuff needed to be replaced anyways
7less fuel lines and less dangerous conditions
8ok fumes less nox
9 different
10 cleaner engine oil and less wear
11 if the fuel place goes out of buisness or the clerk is a dick fuel could be an issue

I saw that they broke ground on the Clearwater Natural Gas Automotive Pump Station, shouldn't be 2 much longer...
I am looking at converting to be able to run both Reg. Gas or Natural Gas...
I have a friend who will be doing conversions for a local fleet and he's going to help me out a lil.
