Interesting. I really want to say hydrogen is the future. I'm not sure how big of a hit this car will be with its limited distance of about 100 miles.

Don't even know what the car costs yet.
But, asking such a question is equivalent to asking "what's a new engine cost for this car?" The batteries in this type of car are designed to last 8-10 years or more (often with a warranty to that effect).
If you look at the Prius (and surely the Leaf will me marketed to compete with the Prius), it's hybrid drive system is warranted for 8 years/100,000 miles. A replacement battery pack for the Prius is about $3,000 (retail), but Toyota says they've never had to replace one due to it "wearing out", only from crash damage.
With modern battery technology, I think any argument about cost/maintenance/longevity of batteries is null and void.

The Nissan Leaf seems cool but its only lease only I think. Theirs another car called Tesla Roadster but its very very expensive . If your broke like me or dont have money for 100k car lol.....I`ll just build one, I`m planning on doing my own ev conversion but average cost is like 7-10k with electric motor, batteries, motorcontroller etc.
Has anyone ever seen white zombie Ev drag car? youtube it you will be impressed. Its set up is two siamease electric motors, its direct drive or hooked up direct to the rear end cause it produces way too much torque no tranny can hold up to the abuse, I think it was producing torque twice the amount of a V8....It was running 11.5 but last time i check its in the high or mid 10s. It blew my mind lol it pretty much inspired me to go and build one but the 7k or 10k I dont have to experiment and build one lmao maybe when i get my finances taken care of someday.......

GM came out with one a looooong time ago but it was only lease only also. I think it was called EV1.

no, Nissan is going to SELL them...as well as lease them.
I think the Honda FCX clarity is more along the lines of progress, but i applaud Nissan for trying their hat in the alternative energy market.
My girlfriend's cousin just got a graduate Internship at Waseda University doing research for Nissan into alternative energy!

Yeah, the old Saturn EV1 was a huge GM research project. All the cars were leased, and all but a handful of them destroyed at the end of the gig.
The Leaf is for sale, but pricing has not yet been announced.

When are the diesel hybrids coming? Besides a fucking train engine?
it is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press,
it is the soldier, not the poet who has given us the freedom of speech,
it is the soldier, not the campus organizer who gives us the freedom to demonstrate,
it is the soldier, who saluted the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.

That's a damned good question. A diesel engine would be ideal for a hybrid, wouldn't it?
Maybe it's just the US market's aversion to diesel cars? Looks like both Mercedes and Toyota have diesel hybrids in the works... but Europe and Japan will surely see them long before we do.

Pricing has been announced.
A bit pricey at $32k, but with all the tax incentives and such, it's doubtful that anyone will pay much more than $25k.
Of course, then you need a $2k charging station.
If the cost of electricity is half what it costs to drive a 30 mpg gas-engined car for 100,000 miles (should be much less than that), you'll save over $4k just in fuel, so that puts it on par with a high-end economy car for price.
All that said... it's nifty, but I ain't buying one.
