TR MPG Challenge
The current Top 20 list is attached to this post.
We had a mileage log up here for a long time with the top 20 listed (plus the top 5 for SUV/large vehicles). It was interesting and fun to see how far we could go on a gallon of gas. But, it was inevitable that the small economy cars would dominate the top 20, and it was getting to where you needed almost 35 mpg just to get on the list. A lot of cars just can't do that!
So, here's the new game: The top 20 is now based on percentage improvement over EPA. Look your car up at fueleconomy.gov and use the HIGHWAY mpg figure for your car at it was originally equipped. Don't care how you've modded it, that's the MPG it got when it was new and that's what we're comparing to for better or worse.
RULES: Vehicles that are listed on the EPA website above only, no older vehicles, no motorcycles, no scooters, just passenger vehicles that are included there. Minimum 5 gallon fill-up required for accuracy!
The benefit of doing it this way is that anyone in any car can "play", AND have an equal chance of winning. It's all about having a well-maintained car and most importantly HOW YOU DRIVE IT.
To be included in the list, please post your info as follows:
Car Type: Year, Make, Model (and major mods if you want)
Miles on Car:
Gallons: To at least the tenth.
Miles: To the tenth if available.
MPG: To the hundredth
EPA: Highway figure using "New" EPA figures.
% Improved: MPG/EPA (minus 1) expressed as a percentage.
Go forth with a light foot, my friends, and set some records!
PS: This thread is intended for people who are interested in getting better fuel mileage for whatever reason (to save money, save the environment, conserve energy, or just to entertain themselves), it's not here for people who ARE NOT interested to make jokes. Any off-topic posts will be deleted without comment. (hint: Posting that your track car gets 80% less MPG than stock will be deleted.)

Road trip on US 19 from Tallahassee area, cruising 65-70 as much as possible. This car is damned difficult to get more than 34 mpg out of, very disappointing to me!

New best
08 collorado chassis cab
43000 miles
gallons: 15.2
miles: 338.4
mpg: 22.3
EPA: 18
% improved 24
Set the cruise control at 60, and held on. Never tried it before, figured the hills would kill me with downshifting. Better than I've done coasting down the hills in neutral.

Nicely done. An indication that there's still more in that truck if you have the patience for it.

Car Type: 1993, Honda, Civic Hatchback
Miles on Car:130,000
Gallons: 10.00
Miles: 430
MPG: 43.00
EPA: 50
% Improved:no improvement "so they say" lol
The epa rating 50mpg is for highway and thats around what i should be getting, but this was based on a trip to Jacksonville, so i dont take the highway all the way plus thats with all the city driving when i get to jax.. so its pretty darn good.. regardless thats my combined exact 43mpg (on epa new) so im right up with them... i bet if i do highway driving at 60 and take the highway all the way i should be doing around 50 to 55mpg's..

Need more precise numbers to be viable. Did you fill up with exactly 10.00 gallons of gas in the car after driving 430 miles? When you're talking about that kind of MPG, the tenths count! 2 tenths of a gallon in either direction can put you anywhere from 42.16 to 43.88, a significant difference.
Is your Civic a VX? The new highway EPA on a '93 Civic VX is either 45 or 49. (with no clear indication of what the difference is between the two specs... gotta love unclear data) I'd give you the benefit of the doubt and call it 45... which means you're close, but still below EPA. Still not bad, though!
You should be able to see 50 mpg easily with that car, just takes a little dedication to the cause.

gallons: 10.04
miles: 342.3
mpg: 34.09
EPA: 26

I shift early, I don't "Floor it". This was mixed driving, Mostly in town, but I take 41 a lot so its a constant 60mph for about 16 miles to town.Under construction..

That's impressive for a 240.
US 41 outside of Tampa is a great place for hypermiling. I regularly get 44-45 mpg every time I drive to Brooksville for an autocross.

Oh, hell... the Spit hasn't had a working speedo/odo since I bought it! They's supposed to be good for over 40 mpg depending on running condition and how/where you drive them, but I'd expect more like 25-30 with the 1500.
The new 2.0 Duratec that's going in it is good for over 30 mpg in a Focus... with the gearing I have in the Spit, I expect I'll be able to get well over 40 with it on the highway. Who knows when it will be finished, though.

1996 Honda Civic EX 5 speed
135,000
gallons: 11.9 full, 7.93 used for numbers.
miles: 215
mpg: 27.11 more city driving
EPA: 26/33
% improved: not much lol, foot becomes lead at times. Sometimes I just like hearing my car revved out till redline before I shift. I was doing great at half tank probally 35mpg or so and then I was away from my car for a month so when i came home it needed a good ole fashion raping to be reunited. Now that i'm back and its been a bit I expect to see my mpg go up quite a bit, i'll post back on the improvement. My old automatic Civic was funny no matter how it was driven it was always 25mpg whether i was taking it easy or putting the pedal down everywhere. Didnt make much sense...
