dude, solar panel(s)! put them on a tonneau cover and collect some sun to charge the batteries on them hot, sunny days! also, put a aftermarket sunroof in that thing for when you do park in the sun, you can have some ventilation for that heat to escape. get the lightest one possible, of course. you should think about a Honda generator too, that way if and when you don't have any place to charge your truck, you can still get her to move under her own power.

Good project, small pickups like that have been electrified many times. Plenty of room for everything and the suspension can handle the load.
The only downside is that a truck is fairly heavy, which will limit your range. If this is just for commuting, a sub-2000 pound car (sports car like a Miata, or a lightweight economy car like an old Metro) might be a better choice. Less weight = more range.

got the trans today 3 speed instead of 4 but i looks like it will work well.

good thing i wont be shiften much
also it uses a standard drive shaft output so i hope like hell the drive shaft yoke slides in

What uses a 3-speed any more? You're not using an automatic, are you?

i was gunna use the stock 4l60e but had this little three speed layn around its so light and small + they sell a floor shifter that would work perfect !
it prob would do ok with the stock auto but i like to keep it simple
just finished last ev project that was simple design and work very well so ill stick to that

suggestions...
use a manual tranny. the auto is heavier, and will eat up power just trying to push through the converter.
try to go to a light rim/tire combo and minimize rotational mass as well as friction
change your lighting to LED lighting...
make it as light as feasably possible. the battery selection can affect this greatly.
depending on the torque and rpm capability of the motor, you might be able to just do a direct drive setup...Last edited by Sneakin Deacon; 01-02-2009 at 05:23 PM.

the three speed is a manual
the stock auto is very small (i had thought about usin it )
motor size is an 8 inch and i dont think it would do a good job coupled directly to the drive shaft
took out the ice today 45 min hack job !
takin out the auto trans tommrow to get a good look
