Default What are some cheap sleeper starts?

I want an all the way sleeper car that's pretty cheap up front.
The few things I would do with the engine would be intake manifold, heads, cam and nitrous(of course intake and exhaust).

2K up front budget.

88 Suburban with a 454 (is the older carburetor one better to upgrade?)
88-94 1500 with a 350 (Carb better?)e
88 2500 with a 454 if I can find one cheap enough (would want diesel but too expensive for me)
97-03 ford explorer with a 5.0
Pretty much anything small with a 350 that its not supposed to be in

I dont want a mustang
or anything that's known to be built up
I have another daily driver, This will be a weekend car.
Must be RWD

Ill take all answer and add to the list. Im going to start looking in a week or so, i just feel like Im forgetting some cars that are good sleepers.

And old rear wheel drive Toyota with a twin cam Toyota motor
or if you like American, put in a ford rear axle, tranny and 289.

Those you posted are boats and would never be a real competition without serious serious motor overhaul..

Looks like you are interested in late 80s Chevys. Go with a short bed truck with a 350, go with carb.

Honestly I'm in to going fast whatever the motor be.
so your saying a 1500 with a 350 would build up better then a 2500 454?

Also seen a caprice with a LT1 and its an auto 4 speed. How much power can those automatic transmissions hold?

Nobody for a 5.0 explorer drag suv?

Also something random
1998 jeep grand Cherokee 5.9L? It has displacement I just don't know about the aftermarket.. probably not even worth tuning.

If I could find an old 7mGTE with low mileage in my price range I definitely would go for it. I dont mind tuner cars, but there either out of my price range, or just slow.
The supra with the 7mgte is the only cheap turbo car that comes to mind in my price range that I can think of

The 1500 would be lighter than the 2500 454.

But the 1500 comes with a 350, wouldn't a 2500 with a 454 have better potential?

any other car ideas?

Yes in the end the 454 would put out more power but it also has to carry the weight of the 2500. Along with its own weight (454 are very heavy). all depends on what you are looking for the vehicle to do.

Another idea would be getting a mini truck such as a ford ranger, or anything similar and dropping a 350 in it. Even better sticking an LS motor in it. A lot of work would come with that but it would be so worth it. I've always wanted to do it. It kinda runs in the family to stick a high HP motor in a small truck. haha!
