Thanks to Flagler County Corvette Club. 14th Annual Corvettes at the beach. October 2015
$1,537 raised for the Pink Army’s fight against breast cancer.
by: Anastasia Pagello

The Flagler County Corvette Club hosted the 14th-annual Corvettes at the Beach event with 172 cars from 13 different corvette clubs. “Corvettes at the Beach has had a larger collection of Corvette’s in past years, but this year’s event has been the most successful so far,” Event Coordinator Paul Kachura said.

A 1957 Fuel Injection Corvette owned by Ronnie and Pam Edge, of Jacksonville, won Best in Show. The Edge’s have all of the car’s original documents and are able to provide proof the car has not left a 30 mile radius since delivery to the first owner in 1957. The car has only changed ownership four times in 57 years. It has been featured in movies and magazines as well as won Best in Class at the Concours d’Elegance Hilton Head in 2013. It also won the Top Flight Award from the National Corvette Restorers Society in 2013.
A $1,537 check was presented to Nancy Gibbs to go towards the Pink Army’s fight against breast cancer. The money was raised through a raffle to win a child sized Corvette, which was won by Bob Duncan.

Default A Tampa Racing Thank You to the Daytona Turkey Run!

Thank You Daytona Turkey Run!
Continuing to produce the largest and most exciting combined classic car show and swap meet in the U.S. is extremely important to us! We want our spectators to have the time of their lives, families to create lasting memories and our vendors to sell, sell, sell.

It's also VERY important for a reason many don't know about. All the profits from the spring and fall Daytona Turkey Run are given back to our community in the form of grants. To date more than $8 million has been given back to local organizations, schools and charities.

Thank you to everyone for continuing to make the Daytona Turkey Run the best show in the U.S. and help many in need at the same time! In 2015, the Run will be on NOV 23-26 See You there!

Default Thank You Carol Suchman!

Thank You Carol Suchman!

Carol Suchman has skyrocketed to the top of Santa’s “Nice” list.

The New York City woman donates toys to homeless children every Christmas, but this year her annual good deed is creating buzz all the way to the North Pole: To provide for kids in 2015, she bought an entire toy store.
Suchman was walking past a storefront in her West Village neighborhood when she noticed a “Going Out of Business” sign in the window.

After a bit of negotiating, she was able to purchase the store’s entire inventory — thousands of toys, stuffed animals, art and school supplies — and then turned everything over to the city’s Department of Homeless Services (DHS).

“I’ve been doing this for many years and we have many generous sponsors,” Antonio Rodriquez, director of special events at DHS, told NY1 News. “But I have to say, that this is the first time anybody ever bought out an entire store and donated it.”

Congratulations to Jan Disanti of Berts Black Widow Harley Davidson
in Port Charlotte, Florida.

During the month of August 2015, Jan sold a record breaking 44 motorcycles!
The previous record was 41. Every Saturday there is a live band and free food. No joke.

The Gift of Valor

February 7 at 6:00pm ·
Aubrey L. McDade, Jr., Sergeant, United States Marine Corps
On the night of November 11, 2004, during the Second Battle of Fallujah, McDade was a machine gun squad leader with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 1st Marine Division, when his squad was attacked and pinned down by small arms and machine gun fire in an alley. Two U.S. Marines were injured. McDade, in the rear, rushed to the front of his squad, directing machine gun fire at the attackers. Under fire, McDade then rescued two of the wounded Marines, one at a time. A third Marine was killed in the attack and his body was recovered. McDade was originally awarded the Silver Star for his action; the award was subsequently upgraded to the Navy Cross.
Citation: For extraordinary heroism while serving as Machine Gun Squad Leader attached to 1st Platoon, Company B, First Battalion, Eighth Marines, Regimental Combat Team &, FIRST Marine Division, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 11 November 2004. Shortly after departing a platoon firm base and proceeding south toward Phase Line Grace, 1st Platoon entered an alley and encountered an immediate heavy volume of small arms and machine gun fire. In the opening seconds of the engagement, three Marines were seriously wounded as the well positioned and expecting enemy pinned others down. On contact, Sergeant McDade rushed from the rear of the platoon column toward the kill zone and immediately deployed a machine gun team into the alley to provide suppressive fire on the enemy. After several attempts to reach casualties in the alley were met with heavy, well-aimed machine gun fire, he showed total disregard for his own safety by moving across the alley and successfully extracting the first of three wounded Marines from the kill zone. Aware of the fact that there were still two wounded Marines in the alley, Sergeant McDade dashed through the heart of the kill zone two more times, each time braving intense enemy fire to successfully retrieve a Marine. After extracting the last casualty from the kill zone, he assisted in the treatment and medical evacuation to these Marines. His quick thinking and aggressive actions were crucial in saving the lives of two of the three casualties. Sergeant McDade’s undaunted courage, fighting spirit and total devotion to duty reflected great credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.

Philanthropist David Rubenstein Gives $18M to Refurbish Lincoln Memorial

by The Associated Press

Sometimes when people say "Tax the rich" it may be more of an election vote getter, than a reality. There are plenty of good people who make enough money that they can do some good in the world. Here is one example.

Philanthropist David Rubenstein, who has already donated tens of millions of dollars to refurbish the Washington Monument and other icons, is giving $18 million to fix up the Lincoln Memorial.
The National Park Service announced the gift Monday. The money will be used to fix the memorial's roof, clean the marble and improve accessibility by adding a second elevator. The park service also plans to create 15,000 square feet of visitor space tucked beneath the memorial for exhibits.

Rubenstein said his admiration for Lincoln drew him to this project.
"Lincoln deserves to have his memorial in tip-top shape," he said in a phone interview.

The Lincoln Memorial draws more 7 million visitors annually and is the most visited attraction on the National Mall.
Park Service Director John Jarvis said the memorial, dedicated in 1922, is structurally sound but does need some repair work.
"It's pretty stout, and I think really has held up quite well for a structure of its age," Jarvis said. "But you can't build a 100-year roof."
Philanthropist David Rubenstein tours the Lincoln Memorial Feb. 15, 2016 in Washington, D.C. Drew Angerer / Getty Images
The memorial is built on pilings, and the park service is going to explore ways for visitors to see the foundations that anchor the memorial to the bedrock. The unseen superstructure is marked with graffiti from the workers who built the memorial over a seven-year period, including caricatures of former President William Howard Taft and memorial architect Henry Bacon.

Rubenstein, a billionaire who founded The Carlyle Group investment firm in Washington, has already given $7.5 million to repair the Washington Monument after a 2011 earthquake, $5.4 million for the Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, and $12.35 million for Arlington House, the home of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee on the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery.
He said he hopes his donations have spurred others to think about giving.

Thanks to Tampa Mazda Dealers
MAZDA DONATES $80,300 TO TAMPA ST. JOSEPHS HOSPITAL

The Tampa Area Mazda dealers along with Mazda North American Operations donated $55,300 to St. Josephs Childrens Hospital through their Mazda Drive for Good partnership. Finance partners (Mazda Capital Services/Chase), also proud participants during the March 19-26 Sunshine Grand Prix, presented St. Josephs Childrens Hospital a $25,000 check in conjunction with the Mazda Drive for Good campaign. In total, $80,300 was donated to St. Josephs Childrens Hospital. The event represented a week of Professional & Amateur Cycling races.
The check presentation took place March 19 in downtown Tampa at the starting line prior to the Men’s Professional Cycling race, which marked the first stop of the year for the USA Crits Championship Series. Spectators learnt about the Mazda Drive for Good partnership and watched some of the best professional cyclists in the country race up close and at high speeds.
