Remember This Lady!
Look at this lady - Let us never forget! The world hasn't just become wicked...it's always been wicked. The prize doesn't always go to the most deserving.

Irena Sendler Died 12 May 2008 (aged 9 Warsaw, Poland

During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.
She had an ulterior motive. Because she was German, she KNEW what the Nazis' plans were for the Jews.
Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack for larger kids.

She also had a dog in the back which she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.
The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms, and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family. Most had been gassed.. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.

In 2007 Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected.
Al Gore won --- for a slide show on Global Warming.
Later another politician, Barack Hussein Obama, won for his work as a community organizer for ACORN.

In MEMORIAM - 65 YEARS LATER
I'm doing my small part by forwarding this message. I hope you'll consider doing the same..
It is now more than 65 years since the Second World War in Europe ended.
This is posted as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated!

Now, more than ever, with Iran and others claiming the HOLOCAUST to be a myth, it's imperative to make sure the world never forgets because there are others who would like to do it again.

Formed years ago, Tampa Racing.com was founded on the principles

Formed years ago, Tampa Racing.com was founded on the principles of encouraging restoration, repair or modification of special interest vehicles. Over 102,000 members strong, Tampa Racing has no national affiliation, but you will likely find its members among any number of automotive organizations including the National Street Rod Association, Mustang Club of America, Goodguys, Florida Mopar Association, Corvette Club of America, to name a few. The type of vehicles found amongst the members varies from restored early 1900's vintage automobiles, to street rods from the 30’s and 40’s, to muscle cars from the 60’s and 70’s, to present day front-wheel-drive imports and motorcycles. With the wide range of vehicles come varying degrees of modifications from bone stock to big block Pro Street monsters. There truly is something to satisfy every automotive taste.

As with the vehicles there are varying activities that the members undertake ranging from weekly cruise nights and car meets, to cruises through the countryside, cookout get-togethers, Christmas parties, open track days, organized races, beach concerts and frequent car shows. The shows are perhaps the most popular venue for many ofthe members who engage in showing their cars at almost every opportunity. Tampa Racing also co-sponsors and/or supports select charity car shows, community events. This is a way of giving back to the local communities.

So come along and join Tampa Racing where you will always be a member of the family whether at a cruise night, car meet or on the highway. And remember life is good friends, a clean ride, and the open road in front of you. Tampa Racing thanks everyone in the car community for the good which they do.

An Open Letter to the Police Officer Who Pulled Me Over Today

Dear Officer,

Today was an exceptionally hard day for me. My two-year-old has been waking up at 5 a.m. every morning and I have been working late. Needless to say, I’m exhausted and drained. The only way to keep both kids busy today and also keep my sanity was to go for a long drive with them both in the car. So after picking up my four-year-old from school, I hoped the long drive would cause him to take a nap and not be so cranky and unpredictable. I planned on meeting a friend at the park by the time he woke up. I was a little lost when I saw you. You were waving your arm and it seemed as if you were directing traffic.

As I was looking for the park I saw you and another officer parked on the street when you signaled to me to pull over. I assumed it was a quick check as I was in a school zone.

Thank God, I thought. He can tell me where the park is.

But to my surprise that is not what you said when you walked up to my window.

“Do you know that you ran a red light making a right while there were kids on the street?” you said.

“‘I am so sorry! I am so lost! I’m not from this area. I’m really sorry,’ I said.” I assumed you would understand. You heard my two-year-old screaming behind me and saw my four-year-old waking up looking confused as to why you were talking to me. Surely, I’d be on my way. I was lost, after all.

“Do you have your license?” you asked me.

Then my friend drove by and waved at us and I was relieved as it was proof that I wasn’t lying to you when I told you I was meeting a friend at the park and I was lost. You waved back at her and smiled and said, “she’ll be there, I’m giving her a ticket.”

I thought you were joking.

So I ignored you thinking this was a pretty crazy situation. After all, I’m a safe driver and have never not gotten a ticket since moving to Florida 20 years ago. I’m sure you saw that in your computer. So why would you need my license? It was clear I was confused and you understood me because you had a genuine, kind face.

“Do you have your license?” you repeated.

Oh, he’s serious.

I started to get a little nervous.

I leaned over and dug through my bag while my son was asking me what’s going on. As I pulled out my license I realized it was an old expired license from about five years ago. I was so embarrassed. And then my nerves got to me.

“Oh my gosh, I am so sorry, I have my old license.” I said.

“This is not going to be good.”

“This is my old address. I don’t know how I picked up the wrong license!”

You went to your car and came back and we confirmed my correct address.

Okay, good, he knows I wasn’t lying, I thought.

“Can I see your registration?” you asked.

“Uh, oh. This is going to be awkward.”

I pulled out an old registration knowing that the new one was in my drawer at home. I know you thought I had to be out of my mind to have both important documents missing.

But this is the thing; you took it anyway and you went back to your car. You wrote up two citations that would cost me nothing as long as I turned in the correct documents.

You gave me a warning for running the light.

You gave me a warning for having the wrong license plate around my license covering the numbers.

You gave me a warning for something else but all I could hear was my heart which was about to explode from gratitude from all the warnings. You smiled at me and I felt at ease.

You saved me around $800 today. Just like that. Money that my family needs.

Why did you do that? Why were you so nice?

That is not what the news and media says about you these days. They don’t call police officers “nice.” The media is harsh on police officers. They say that you don’t do your job. But they don’t know what happened to me today. They don’t know that I have three police officers as neighbors and each one of them has demonstrated nothing but integrity towards my family and I know that if I ever needed a helping hand that they would not hesitate to help me, one going as far as knocking on our door to let us know our car lights were on. As my husband stood there with two screaming kids, he offered to take his keys and do it himself. My other neighbor works all night and drives an hour back and forth to work every day. He moved his girlfriend, her teenage kids and her mother in his three-bedroom townhouse. I see him walking their three dogs when he gets back from work. He’s just an average guy trying to make a living doing a job that was referred to me once by an officer as a “glorified social worker.” But it’s much more than that.

They didn’t see you standing outside in the blazing heat 3pm watching out for drivers and protecting high school kids (just by your presence). They didn’t see you smile and show me exactly what to do with my citations and give me directions to the park. They didn’t see you have a talk with my son about why you stopped me so that he would have a positive experience through all of this.

I came home today realizing a lot about myself. I am rushing through life. I went straight to get my license and registration and put it with the paperwork you gave me knowing that I will take care of it in a few days. I need to slow down and put my stuff in order. I can’t rush through life and miss important moments like going to the park with my sons.

I will never forget how you treated me and it has opened my eyes to your world and how we have encounters with people every day which we might not see again, but could impact us for the rest of our lives.

Thank you for your kindness.

Congratulations to Roger Penske

Roger Penske receives IMRRC's Cameron R. Argetsinger Award
Friday, 01 July 2016

IMRRC
From left: Duke and J.C. Argetsinger, sons of Cameron Argetsinger, Roger Penske and Bobby Rahal, chairman of the IMRRC Governing Council.

A capacity crowd at the Corning Museum of Glass was treated to a celebratory evening of tributes, shout-outs, slide shows and interviews on Thursday as the International Motor Racing Research Center presented the Cameron R. Argetsinger Award to racing icon Roger Penske.
The presenting sponsors of the evening and award were NASCAR, IMSA, International Speedway Corp. and Watkins Glen International. The sell-out event was supported by Sahlen's.
This was the IMRRC's third consecutive presentation of the award recognizing outstanding contributions to motorsports in the name of the founder and organizer of the first races at Watkins Glen, N.Y. Multi-team owner and former driver Chip Ganassi was the first recipient of the Argetsinger Award in 2014. NASCAR icon Richard Petty was the 2015 honoree.
Penske, whose Team Penske is celebrating 50 years in the sport this year, received the award from Argetsinger's sons J.C. and Duke, along with Bobby Rahal, four-time Indianapolis 500 winner and chairman of the IMRRC's Governing Council.
Racing dignitaries offered up personal memories of their experiences with the man who's known as "The Captain." Speakers included famed TV reporter Dr. Jerry Punch as the master of ceremonies; Scott Atherton, president and COO of IMSA; Michael Printup, president of WGI; Jay Frye, president of INDYCAR Competition and Operations; Lisa Noble, president of SCCA; and Walt Czarnecki, executive vice president of Penske Corp. and vice chairman of Team Penske.
His peers painted a portrait of Penske using accolades emphasizing his calm and effective leadership, respect for others, attention to detail and focus on getting a job done and getting it done well.
"You see his energy, and it builds energy in you," Printup said.
Ganassi spoke to Penske spontaneously from the audience.
"I never had a bitter rivalry with you, we had a great rivalry," he said. Then, speaking to the room, Ganassi related that Penske was the first to send congratulations after his team's recent historic victory at Le Mans.
The gathering viewed a number of video shout-outs from Penske's former and current team members as well as his competitors, all lauding his many successes over the 50 years of Team Penske's reign. The respect Penske has earned in that half-century was evidenced by the tributes from Dan Gurney, Jim Hall, Danny Sullivan, Al Unser Jr., Parnelli Jones and his current crop of team drivers Will Power, Simon Pagenaud, Juan Pablo Montoya, Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano.
Team Penske drivers Helio Castroneves, currently competing in IndyCar, and former racer Rick Mears, team advisor for Team Penske, were interviewed by Punch.
Mears marveled at Penske's own championship record as a driver before he became a team owner, a record highlighted in remarks by Noble of SCCA and the dinner's slide show.
"I'm learning more tonight about how well he drove a race car. As a driver himself, he understood what it took," said Mears who earned three CART championships for Team Penske. "That understanding took a lot of pressure off of me as a driver."
Penske's driving experience, Castroneves agreed, is the well from which he pulls split-second decisions that lead to success.
"When he makes a decision, there is no way you're going to change it," Castroneves said. "He's the key to me winning my first championship."
Penske himself took the hot seat later in the evening, fielding questions from Punch about his career, personal family life and the time he had a $100 bet with fellow driver Augie Pabst that ended with a car in a hotel swimming pool.
Punch led him back to his early days, asking about the inspiration that would launch a career in motorsports. Penske said it was watching races as a youngster, including the Indianapolis 500 when he was 14.
"Once you're there, you see the speed and you see the cars. I never forgot that. I wanted to be a driver, and I wanted to compete," Penske said.
More than 50 years later, Team Penske is one of the most successful teams in the history of racing.
"We're not in the racing business," Penske said. "We're racers, and there's a big difference. We want to deliver more than what's expected. That's what we try to do in racing, and I think that's why we have been so successful."
The laudatory evening was punctuated by the $27,500 auction bid for an original painting by famed motorsports artist Randy Owens depicting just a few of the championship-winning cars that represent Team Penske's remarkable 50 years in the sport.
In addition to NASCAR, ISC, WGI, IMSA and Sahlen's, award dinner sponsors and supporters were Corning Incorporated, Bosch, Corning Auto Glass, Chip Ganassi Racing, Elmira Savings Bank, Paul Miller Auto Group, Porsche, SCCA, Sunoco, Welliver and Glenora Wine Cellars.

Congratulations to Dan Gurney

[h=2]Dan Gurney to receive Peter Bryant Award[/h] Friday, 05 August 2016

Doug Stokes
ABOVE: Peter Bryant (left) and Dan Gurney at the Legends of Riverside reunion in 2009.

On Saturday night, Aug. 20, Dan Gurney's name will be added to the honor roll of names already inscribed on the Peter Bryant Challenger Award. This unique award is named for the late racecar designer Peter Bryant, who designed and engineered many well-known racing machines, among them the cutting-edge Ti22 and UOP Shadow Can-Am cars as well as the Shelby Series 1 road cars. Beginning as a young racing mechanic in his native England, Bryant went on to become a brilliant and innovative engineer/designer (and an every bit as brilliant storyteller and celebrity impressionist.)
The man's classic biography, "Can-Am Challenger" is a fascinating recounting of a life well-lived in the sport. At a Riverside Raceway reunion event in 2010 (on the first anniversary of Bryant's passing) the "Peter Bryant Challenger Award" was unveiled and presented to former McLaren mechanic/Formula 1 Driver/racecar constructor Howden Ganley by Bryant's widow Lois.
The ceremony honoring Gurney will take place at a special dinner at the Monterey Plaza Hotel held as part of the historic races and concours and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic Can-Am racing series.
"We've got the plaque ready," said Can-Am event producer Dave Wolin. "In truth, Dan Gurney's name should have been on this perpetual trophy long ago. Dan Gurney has always been celebrated as championship driver ... and now we're very pleased to be able to recognize him for his many contributions to racecar engineering with this prestigious award."
Whether it was his overseeing the design and construction the Formula 1 Weslake Eagle and then driving it to become the first American (and still the only one) to win a Grand Prix in a car with his own name on it; or talking Ford into working with Colin Chapman to install a modified Ford Fairlane engine in a upgraded Lotus 33 chassis for the Indianapolis 500; or taking Toyota to victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona; or building the Eagle Indy car that Jerry Grant broke the 200 mile-per-hour barrier with at Ontario Motor Speedway in 1972. ... Dan Gurney was never satisfied with the status quo and always sought a technical edge to go along with his great talent behind the wheel.
"The general public really never thought of Dan Gurney as any of an engineer when he was driving," Wolin remarked, "but, in many ways he was." Perhaps one his best "engineering" feats took place at the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans. Some years after his famous champagne-spraying victory there, Gurney let on that he really never went as fast as he could in practice, figuring very rightly that his congenitally competitive co-driver (one Anthony Joseph Foyt, Jr.) would try to match (or beat) his times and possibly end up screwing up their chance at the win. Dan Gurney set a strong but solid pace... their Ford GT won.
The award celebrates excellence in motor racing engineering and the sort of spirit that Bryant brought to the craft. Phil Remington, Bruce Burness, Trevor Harris, Tyler Alexander, Alwin Springer, and Ike Smith are the names that precede Gurney's on the clear Lexan award that features a likeness of his sleek Ti22 car and pieces of titanium sheet sourced from the Timet Company, the company that originally produced that exotic super-strong/super-light metal for Bryant's incredible "Ti22" car.
Due to prior commitments Gurney will not be able to attend the Can-Am dinner. Accepting for him will be Vintage Racecar Associate Editor, historian, and the author of "Dan Gurney's Racing Eagles", John Zimmermann.

Congratulations to Don Romano
'32 Ford Roadster Is Cruiser of the Month.

By Paul Courter
Don Romano has owned and driven many cool cars over his 30-plus years in the collector car hobby, but for all that time, the Riverview resident has had his heart set on a '32 Ford.
He finally found one that met his high standards close to home - a bright blue roadster built by his friend Joe Ferrante and son Joey. Selected as the Roamin' Oldies Car Club September cruiser of the month, it's powered by a 301-cubic-inch GM engine with six 2-barrel carburetors atop an Offenhouser intake manifold, coupled to a Chevrolet 400 automatic transmission.
Don had the roadster modified to his taste with a few mechanical tweaks and the addition of fenders, white flames, and a white convertible top. "I've been looking for the right '32 Ford for 30 years, and now I've got it," he said happily.

[h=2]Al Unser Sr. named honoree for 2017 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Congratulations![/h] Tuesday, 30 August 2016

Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Sr. has been named the honoree for the 22nd annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, which will be held March 10-12, 2017.

"The 100th running of the Indy 500 has made us even more nostalgic than usual," said Bill Warner, founder and Chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. "When we started to think about an honoree for 2017 'Big Al' seemed like the perfect choice. Next May is the 30th anniversary of 'Big Al's' fourth '500' victory and the 60th anniversary of his first race win: perfect bookends to an extraordinary career. We were very flattered when he agreed to join us in 2017."
Thre three-time Indy car champion (1970, '83, '85), mastered all forms of motor racing, including four times as a Hoosier Hundred victor and sprints, midgets, Formula 5000 and stock cars; in May, he took to the track in the winner of the first Indy 500, the 1911 Marmon Wasp, as part of the festivities for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 (pictured). The Hall of Famer was USAC stock car rookie of the year in 1967 and IROC champion in 1978. In his final Indianapolis 500 (1987) win he broke Ralph De Palma's 67-year-old record for most career laps led in the historic race and is the current leader at 644. In 2011 he was voted by fans as second all time to A.J. Foyt in the "Greatest 33" ever to compete in the Indy 500.
In June 2015, SVRA gave Unser the honor of grand marshal for the Brickyard Invitational at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
