Machine Shop that will bore out hub centers on a set of wheels in St. Pete
Hey, I have a set of titan wheels going on a hardbody and I need to have the centers bored out to 4" and a 1/2" deep, does any one know of a good machine shop in the old northeast area? any help is greatly appreciated, looking to get this done today

There is actually a machine shop on 4th street, between 23rd ave and 24th ave. Couldnt hurt to see what they say, Ive heard good reviews about that place. Plus if you are in the old northeast area, its right down the street.

I tried a couple shops close to me and I got tired of everyone telling me a hundred a wheel so I just bought the rabbiting bit and threw it on my porter cable . You couldnt tell the difference between my job and a machine shops, the aluminum is so soft the router cuts thru it like a hot knife thru butter....just measure twice and go slow dont rush it.

I wonder if you can get a piston honing bit and a cordless drill and slowly bore it out. I mean aluminum wheels will cut faster then steel
Something like this 3" X 3" leg motor Adjustable Cylinder Hone piston tools | eBay

The problem I see with using a router is you most likely will not have a jig to guide you. Cutting a bore freehand will give you an oblong hole, ive been there before, you do not want that. Sure the wheel will fit but when it comes time to balance the wheel your balance will be off, because a lot of these wheels are hub centric.
I payed a machine shop to do my wheels in the past, he explained the rim was to big for his lathe. He said he has another way, I said ok do what you have to do. I caught him in the middle of doing a wheel and I seen he was using a air dremel with a cutting bit. The bore looked good butt when it came time to balance the wheel, you can tell the wheel was not spinning true. There are some places that can balance the wheels on the car but you have to pay extra.
