Busted Torque Converter or Tranny?
Buddy has a mid 90's mazda with a 2 liter 4 banger and auto fwd tranny. First gear if you give it any gas car barely goes anywhere and you hear a clicking sound like a sprag isnt catching.
You can get the car going by a tiny bit of throttle but any more than 1/4 and it just goes clicks loudly and goes nowhere. Now this doesnt happen once its in the upper gears, seems only in 1st and early 2nd. Im thinking either trannies totally fried or a REALLY bad TC.

bearing is gone, just swap out the entire trans with a Nascar grade Jerico 4-Speed, it will never happen again.
