happened earlier tonight. right in front of me.
the lights flashed, the old lady over reacted and side swiped the person next to her.
me, being the great guy I am, stopped and stuck around to make sure everyone was alright.
the old woman told the cop that the bright flash scared her, that she thought she was about to get hit so she tried to get out of the way, and in her panic, must of hit the car beside her.

aren't these things supposed to prevent wrecks?

It is interesting that the cameras cause the very thing they are
"supposed" to prevent. Not only that, but it has been well documented
that red light cameras cause crashes, yet the persuit of revenue takes
precedent. Everyone on both sides of the issue knows it's about money
and not safety.

The cameras will stay until the right person files the right lawsuit.
They won't listen to you. The TV stations might. The city council might
listen, but you have to request in advance to get on the "list" to speak
for 5 minutes...and they will not answer any questions.
I have a camera in my car (for another reason) should I be the one who
witnesses it. And it will take the right incident to bring this to their attention.

"Right" meaning 1.someone will be killed or seriously injured.
2.The camera will have to have been present and did not prevent anything.

Unfortunately bureuacratic logic is:
"well now that we have a crash, we need to put up more red light cameras!"
....and they ignore the facts of the cause....and put cameras in the hot revenue spots... LOL -Bob

Fuck the causes and the corruption and the for-our-own-safety bullshit. If you want freedom you have to take risks. Having government cameras watching you to make sure you don't inadvertently commit a misdemeaner traffic violation should start a community rebellion. But sadly, it won't. Not alone anyway.

my .02 , i ran the light on waters ave and dalemabry... got the ticket in the mail for $125. also with three pictures. 1. before running the light, 2. car in the middle while light on red , and third close up of my tag and butt showing running light..... what can i say i had to poop mann, letter said something about first offence warning, or maybe it wasnt in affect so they couldnt charge me idk

for the 1st 30 days they were active anyone that ran one got a warning. After the 30 days the offender will get a fine.

Thanks for posting the link. It looks like a sympathy bill/law. No one wants to be
the cruel SOB that was mean to the lady who lost her husband. I wish to point out
that cameras don't prevent a person running a light. They just record that he did,
so that the govt can make money from it.

There may be a phase-in and not all cameras went into effect on the same day.
I suspect there is some sort of adjustment/calibration that is taking place.
The other day they were working on the camera at Gandy and Manhattan.
In one of my previous posts I had mentioned the camera was flashing when
no one was running the light....when it was clearly green.

How many people will wrongfully get a ticket when they did not actually run the light?

Let's say that there was a camera present when the lady's husband was hit at a red light.
Did the camera prevent it from happening? The answer is no. The camera documents that
the person ran a red light therefore enabling the govt to make money from the lady's tragedy.

the lights timing will catch you...........

Here is another way you will get a ticket that you don't deserve:
Since you are law-abiding, You make a stop for a light that just turned yellow.
When the light turns red, you immediately turn right on red. The camera flashes
and takes your picture.

You were clearly stopped before the light turned red.
You made a legitimate right on red since you had been stopped.
The camera took your picture when you had definitely stopped
and had made a legitimate right on red....since it flashes immediately upon
the light turning red. When you get the ticket in the mail it shows your car
in the intersection. Of course your car is in the intersection...you were
making a legal right on red!-Bob
