Lawyer or not?
I was driving in Manatee county on a six lane road with a posted speed of 50mph. I got laser at 87mph. I have checked into lawyer fees, they are about $1,000.00. A lawyer told me he would expect court cost to be $300 to $400.00 plus traffic school. 30mph over posted speed is mandatory court appearance.
Has anyone had experience at throwing themselves at mercy of the court or going to court themselves?

I think it wold depend on your past driving record. but 37 mph over the speed limit is def. not going to help you. Heres some answers I found on google that may help you.
Can a lawyer get my 35mph over the speed limit ticket completely dismissed? - Yahoo! Answers

The bad news is the cop does only traffic/ radar work. Driving record is very good, maybe one ticket in last 2 years, before that safe driver.

If the cops certs are all up to date and his laser is calibrated, it sounds tough to beat, maybe lawyer up, and get it reduced. I thought FL enacted some rule about 25mph over posted speed automatically got you suspended or something.

It's hearing about situations like this that make me feel VERY fortunate for that officer lowering my 88 in a 45 to 59 in a 45.

If you have a good driving record plead no contest, ask to have adjudication withheld (no points), tell the court that you're really broke so they reduce the fine and go to driving school. Done deal.

Prevention is best........
I pay $16/month for prepaid legal insurance. Any ticket, any
county, any state.
With my background in safety.........
If a crash is involved I write up my own very detailed traffic study.
I do my own research at the law library for traffic tickets and give it
to my attorney to use or not use. I give him such confidence that he
will win, he provides a vigorous defense and gets tickets dismissed.
Unknowledgeable people on some forums laugh at my car but there is
far more to it than most people realize. I have researched and learned
from military aircraft as to how to make it less visible and I analyse risk
to lessen the likelihood of getting stopped.. I do prevention things I'm
unwilling to talk about here. I am always respectful to the officer who
stops me.
My answer to your lawyer question.........
Whether you win or lose, Having a lawyer go with you gets psychological
points with the judge and lessens the loss. By yourself, losses will be greater.
Face to face discussion at the meets on why and/or how the psychology
works.........
After court......
Save up the amount that this experience will have cost you, if you plan
to do it again.....and don't do it again until you have that amount saved.
If you want to talk about electronic counter measures, catch me at the meets.
Let us know what you finally did and the results you got so that we can all get
smarter. Thanks.-Bob---- on-site *Aftermarket* spring/suspension installations --- on-site impact wrenching---street lowering with your own stock springs...........
