What a plea bargain is. Do you prefer cops who will, or cops who won't
It's my understanding that in a plea bargain, both parties get something
they want. TV example: To get a conviction without working hard, in his
own self interest, the prosecutor reduces the charge in return for a guilty plea.
Accused gets a lesser charge without the risk of trial where it might be
a worse sentence for a worse charge.
Prosecutor gets a sure conviction without the risk of trial where the jury might
find the guy not guilty. There is no certainty at a trial. Examples available
on demand
---------------------------------------------------------------
Traffic case example of plea bargain:
To get a conviction without working hard, the cop reduces the charge
in return for a guilty plea.
Accused gets a lesser charge without wasting his time with a trial
where he might be found guilty anyway of a greater charge.
Cop gets a conviction without taking his time to go to court. It's in the
cops "best interest" to take the easy way to a conviction. On his
personnel record he gets a check mark for "conviction" and it doesn't
matter if it was a lesser charge.
My contention is still that I prefer to deal with cops who for their own
self interest will write a lesser charge in the belief that I won't fight it,
instead of the ones who say "sign here!" and don't give a hoot if I fight it
or not.
The "sign here's" will write such a volume of tickets they will still
get the check marks, no one gets a break and they also.....are acting in their
own self interest.
People are free to decide what is in your own self interest and how you
want the cops to act who stop you. Get a break....Versus...."sign here!"-Bob---- on-site *Aftermarket* spring/suspension installations --- on-site impact wrenching---street lowering with your own stock springs...........
