Keeping a Meet Going-recent conversation
General principles of keeping a meet going.
Based on discussions at a lot of the meets which I go to and
an observation of meets that come and go..............
I was asked this question last weekend. Some people are working
hard at their meets and having a good time doing so.
If a person expects people to come out to a recurring weekly meet,
the meet organizer/sponsor needs to keep the thread active.
One way to keep a thread active is by posting every week, so people
know that at least the organizer/an associate/sponsor supports the meet and
will be there. When an organizer doesn't show, people don't show.
A second way to keep a thread active is by posting up pictures of people
of people having a good time......and/or cars every week as a way of showing
that the meet is still active.
Sometimes someone needs to post during the meeting week so people know
if the meet is on or off.
When people show up a couple times and no one is there, their
perception is that the meeting is no longer being held.....and they won't be back
until they see another posting from someone running the meet.
Examples available only in face to face conversation. See you at the meets
and keep checking the first couple pages of TR Local Events.
That is where actual events are posted.-BobLast edited by senor honda; 09-09-2011 at 01:58 AM. Reason: spelling

This is not the meet forum, this is GCC.

I saw the reported post. But technically hes in the right section. If he was advertising for a meet, or making notifications for a meet, it would be in the wrong section. I say hes in the right section because hes only discussing meets, which are part of the car scene, which would fall into the GCC section. Ive met Senior Honda more than once, and hes a nice guy, hes a little out there with his car stuff, but everybody's got their own thing. Most of his posts are just musings from a person who doesnt see things as our generation does. Bobs a nice guy and im glad hes around. Please, if you dont enjoy his postings, just skip over them. Thanks. Dave.

So discussing meets is now GCC. Are you saying that we don't need the Local Events forum anymore? All the Local Events forum is for is discussing meets. They may be more specific, but it's still about meets.
Sometimes someone needs to post during the meeting week so people know
if the meet is on or off.
When people show up a couple times and no one is there, their
perception is that the meeting is no longer being held.....and they won't be back
until they see another posting from someone running the meet.

Pretty sure he is advertising the Local Events forum in GCC.
If that's the line you are going to draw, at least update the rules to reflect that.

I agree with Dave. This is Car Chat, not advertising a meet.
A lot to having a car meet continue is who attends it. People look forward to going to it because they get to meet up with people they want to talk to. It gets to be a replacement for meeting up at a bar. Not to mention less expensive. I used to go to a different car meet almost every night of the week for awhile to see friends and just hang out.
A good core group of people helps a lot and a good location that people aren't chased off from which usually means that the people who attend don't draw attention to themselves.if you can only race me in a straight line then whats the point

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then youll go faster period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster. the late Tom Thrash SCCA Solo E Production

Sounds good. If that's the stance the staff wants to take, I will make sure to discuss meets in GCC more often.

He isn't discussing a particular meet. He is discussing how to keep a meet - any meet - going. That's general car chat.

So you think, based off of his post, that the best place for it is GCC? He's basically giving a guide on how to maintain a meet thread. It's definitely going to get some use in GCC when all of the local meets are in a different location.

I find it amusing how willing all of you are to back him up, but when undeniable evidence is shown that he is abusing the rules, you just turn around and pretend like it doesn't happen.

Lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

There's more than enough room for Bob to post his threads. He isn't taking up the entire GCC section, and it's auto-related. Quit being Nazis.

Allow me to do these Admins job for them
In the forum rules:
Forum Rules
- No Post whoring
- Keep threads on topic
- If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything.
[h=1]Forum: General Car Chat[/h]Talk about cars in general. All makes and models - strictly car discussion.
Again, interesting.
Now take a look at the responses from the admins recently when it was pointed out that Bob does follow the rules or guidelines for his posts:
http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/ge...44-admins.html
I would quote the multiple admins responses, but there's too many and it would take too much time.
If you guys are going to ban repeat offenders, have at it. But don't be inconsistent and ban some of them, when one of the worst ones is being backed by all of you. You guys keep bringing up how he's a nice guy and he's cool in person, but honestly, how many regulars on here aren't nice in person. I know I'm pretty laid back and "nice", same with quite a few others. Just because I'm a nice guy in person, doesn't mean you sway your opinion of me on the forums. I would still expect punishment when I break forum rules.
