Technically it is a ticketed offense. A bumper is considered a safety feature.
Also, you may be surprised that if you haven't notified them of its removal, your insurance doesn't need to honor your claim if you hit something without the bumper on your car for the same reason. Think of it as if you removed your airbags or seat belts etc etc.....There is some grey area if the bumper support has not been removed however.
Now that being said, I ran my car without one for a month or two while doing Turbo upgrades and work etc without any problems.Last edited by burgy240; 08-12-2011 at 10:59 AM.

#1 is why? i hate seeing so many pos always running round with no bumpers....at least put the plastic bumper cover back on. yes you can buy probably wont get a ticket. i drove for years without my front bumper but had the stock bumper cover on so no one could tell.

removing the bumper (actual crash bar and impact absorbers) is an offense.
removing the bumper cover is not an offense.
but why ?

^ exactly, I'm guessing or hoping a ginormous front mount intercooler that simply will not fit with the factory front end like many drag cars. I doubt this being the case though. BTW I removed my airbags because old cars you get antiqued with a canvas bag at 200mph and we all know that isn't fun nor safe. Half the time those airbags fuck you up worse. But on new cars you hit into a soft feather pillow that surrounds you lol

As usual talking straight out of your ass.
Alex, you dont need a cover on either bumper. But you do need a bumper/Absorber to take on initial impact. As long as you have some piece attached to the frame of your car.. factory bumper, pxn bumper bar, or even a trailer hitch. You should be fine in court... the problem is that even when your car is technically "legal" in court... you might still be harrased by street cops.. and im guessing THATS what youre trying to avoid. The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

just leave a bumper on the car. when i had a huge intercoler i cut about 24" out of the center of my support and mounted it back on.. this way i had the support and fit the cover back on to look nice and stock. unless your in the new fast and furious no one cares about seeing your intercooler.

The man at no point mentioned an intercooler.
He has an older corolla, in his opinion, it looks better without bumpers.
Just that, nothing else. Not an intercooler, so spare the bullshit. If you dont know the answer to the question, dont post some ignorant unrelated bullshit. The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

i am referint to what the post is talking about (bumper) there is a bumper and a bumper cover on most newer cars. no you do not need a cover, yes you need some sort of bumper for 5mph....but yes a refigerator door or a large plank (which i have just seen today) will work

The best solution "to avoid being noticed" is to have a stock
cover in place. I have carved a few bumper covers for people so
they fit around their mods.
What's needed to be strictly legal is going to be discussed by lawyers,
but generally, if it "looks right" to the cops, the cops won't bother you.
If you keep plenty of following distance, then you won't crash. If you
don't crash, probably no one will notice or care.
Some trucks have a piece of pipe for a bumper. One of my former autocross
cars had a piece of aluminum tubing that was a "bumper". Plenty of rods and
customs have a push bar and/or a "custom" bumper. -Bob---- on-site *Aftermarket* spring/suspension installations --- on-site impact wrenching---street lowering with your own stock springs...........

now theres a diff. between a bumper and a bumper cover like i had my bumper cover off my honda for about a month no problems because its not illegal now taking off ur accual bumper is illegal because it is a safety feature.
