Factory Five + Subaru = mid-engined roadster!?!
Mid-Engine, 1,800 lbs., WRX-Based Running Gear... The Next Factory Five

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you stuffed a Subaru WRX motor into something that's mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive, and weighs less than 2,000 lbs.? Because that's the next Factory Five car - a two-seater built around inexpensive and indestructible Subaru running gear. The styling isn't finalized, but I'm imaging something that looks like Lancia Stratos. And if you don't break into a creepy serial-killer smile every time you imagine an affordable, WRX-based Stratos, then you are some kind of weirdo. The car's new wheelbase is locked in at 95" which is a little longer then an Exige."
- Ezra Dyer, Automobile Magazinedetails and downloadable design templatesBased on tough Subaru WRX running gear, Factory Five's next car has been in development for almost a year. With a space frame designed and tested on SolidWorks software, this single donor car will sell for $9,900. We will use our 15 years of accumulated design and manufacturing skills to deliver a "world car" that can be COMPLETED for less than $15,000.

I looked at a used Boxster once....I was like "where's the engine? I mean I know where it is but how do I get to it?"
the salesman "oh you can only get to it from underneath, but you can check the oil from up top and put oil in coolant in"
Then I asked "how am I supposed fix anything?"
and with a puzzled look he said "just take it into a Porsche dealership"
that's when I just walked away2011 Subaru Forester - the daily driver kid hauler

Based on what?
Their Cobra build kit comes in under $14k, the '33 Ford kit is $20K but there is no donor vehicle.
This is supposed to be FFR's budget build, I'm sure they'll be right near the 10K mark for the base kit,
and then probably another $5K for additonal accessories (like a hardtop).2011 Subaru Forester - the daily driver kid hauler

Cobra - the base kit is shit you need a ton more. the complete kit is still missing drivetrain rear end wheels etc and is 20k plus shipping
They are going to do the same thing, offer a 'base kit' for 10k which fucks you by shorting a ton of essentials making you buy the donor car. How much can you get a wrx for ?
I know the average cost to build a GTM is 45-50k or over 2x the cost.

none of their build kits include the drivetrain
thats why they are considered KIT cars
Thats how it works, they're not saying the total build cost is going to be $10K
In my area I can find early WRX's for between $5-7K wrecked ones for around $3K.
If it goes like previous cars their will soon be donor pallats of all the necessary parts available.2011 Subaru Forester - the daily driver kid hauler
