Police 'Street Racing' = Entrapment?
Police 'Street Racing' = Entrapment?
This came up on another forum. Lots of states these days have 'modded' cars that they go out an bait people into racing them with. Thier methods vary, but it's either drive behind the guy and flash the lights, then pull next to them and try to entice them into racing, or doing something along those lines. Either in traffic or on the highway.
I've seen people mention that it's like 'a undercover cop trying to start a fight with you then arresting you when you hit him.'
But cops also do this to catch people for solicitating prostitution. Female cop walks around and shakes her ass, random guy is like "WTF?" and she talks him into taking her to her hotel. He walks into the room, gets arrested.
Where can we draw the line and say it's entrapment vs just being messed up vs being acceptable?
And would the entrapment deffense ever hold up in court if someone was caught 'street' racing?
And, at what point is it okay for police officers to break the law to catch people for doing something they probably would have/might have/might not have/probably wouldn't have done anyways? If a cop is trying to get you to street race, and you agree, and then the two of you 'race', isn't the cop equally or more guilty of racing too? Or is this another scenario where the cops can lie to get you to admit guilt?

You do have to worry about it if you don't street race, its still cops over stepping their boundries and going against statutes that have been put in place. Your basically giving the police power to do anything they want regardless of what rules are in place to protect society. Lets let cops pull you over for no reason whatsoever and search your car against your consent, and give you a full body cavity search on the side of the road...."you have nothing to worry about if your not breaking the law". Lets give EVERYONE leaving Chili's a breathalyzer......"You have nothing to worry about if your not drunk".
