I am sorry to be a dumb ass this morning but what does removing the air intake sensor actually do?

are you talking about the mass airflow sensor?

Depends on what kind of car/sensor you are talking about.. ??Originally posted by "Someone"

Man if you are talking about the mass airflow sensor removing that puppy will keep your vehicle from running.
Thats what the FI uses to determine how much air the engine is drawing in so it knows how much fuel to inject.
Most FI systems also need to know the temperature and presssure of the air so there is the possibility that whatever you are looking at could also be a temperature or pressure sensor.

heres a tip. dont remove something if you dont know what it does.

Could also be air intake temp sensor which determines how much fuel the EEC gives to the motor

I think he means the air intake silencer. It basically frees up the intake to make it breathe better. Its sole purpose is to make the intake quieter.

Didnt know saturns had em I dont know how much they would really add on a 4 banger

Its the air temp sensor. Youll need it in the intake to let the computer know what temperature the air coming into the intake manifold is at.
You can take out the resonator part of the intake to make it sound a little louder and a tad increase in throttle responce. Its held in by one plastic clip in the front...FYI if you have saturn stuff you want answered itd probably be better for you to ask it on my board. Not to many guys have experience with them on the board. Thats not to say they couldnt answer the question though.

If its the air temp sensor removing it or unplugging it MAY do a few things depending on the type of sensor it is. Most send a signal to the computer in terms of resistance (ohms) that changes with temp. That signal is used by the PCM in conjunction with others (MAF O2s MAP) to determine timing and fuel requirements. If you unplug the IAT sensor the computer (on most GM cars) will see an open or infinite resistance and give the lowest possible temp input to the computer for air temp. That can increase timing across the RPM range sometimes giving a few extra ponies. It can also lead to detonation if too much timing is present.
I hooked up a 10k ohm potentiometer to my IAT sensor so I can dial in the temp I want. If I want some timing retard for nitrous I dial it so the computer sees 185 degress F and it takes 2 or 3 degrees total timing out. For more timing I dail in 20 degrees F and it will advance it some. Works good.
This may be totally different on Saturns but most IAT sensors work the same.
if it's cheap & reliable, it ain't fast, if it's fast & cheap, it ain't reliable, if it's fast & reliable, it ain't cheap

Air Flow Meter?

measures the amount of air coming in and a ECU adjusts amount of fuel coming to engine :evil5:
Thats in a celica thou...
