Nissan GT-R files down 'Ring time to 7:26.70

VIDEO: Nissan GT-R files down 'Ring time to 7:26.70We're starting to get the feeling Nissan is a permanent fixture at the Nürburgring, as the duo of GT-R and driver Toshio Suzuki keep coming up with new times at the famed German racetrack. Back in April, the former F1 driver took a revised GT-R through the 'Ring in 7:27:56, prompting Porsche to call Balderdash, saying that a stock GT-R isn't nearly that fast. Now Suzuki and a right-hand drive Godzilla teamed up to produce an even better time of 7:26.70, and taped it all nice and official so they can show the world.
After the jump is video proof of the speed and agility of the infamous GT-R, being driven by one of the 'Ring's few true masters. The video contains the full 7:26.70 of Suzuki going full-tilt with what looks like just enough fuel to get across the finish line, and an engine constantly in the 6,000-7,000 RPM range from start to finish.
If you think you've seen one too many 'Ring laps, take it from us that the last 30 seconds is incredible. Suzuki goes all-out to get the best time possible, and from the vantage point of the in-car camera, we feel like we're right there next to him -- except we find ourselves feeling for the brake while Suzuki keeps his foot on the gas.04 Neon SRT - damn turd needs a motor

impressive, i really like the ZR-1 and the GTR and these times are impressive, even though you are still gonna hear the same comments about what kinda tires and what ecu tweaks were done....very impressive!

The should have shown more details in the vid like tires, engine shots etc so other car manufacturers can't say the modified it to get that time.

Notice how much the car and the driver are bouncing? I don't know how stiff the suspension gets in "R" mode, but that looks very unstock to me.

you guys have to keep in mind that the Nordschleife is anything but smooth surfaced.
If your suspension is too stiff, you'll go off.
btw, old news

I know the Nurburgring is known for making teams soften up their suspension, but I'm still saying there's WAY too much movement in the cabin. Also, not sure if that's the standard way laps are timed, but his finishing position is not in the same place as his starting position. He would add a couple seconds to get there.

I'm fine with the cabin's movement, the GT-R is a realy heavy car + it has big wheels.
The first time I went there I got motion sick because of the shaking and up- and downward g-force.....I was in a VW Polo 6N2 GTI.
The suspension of the GT-R comes from Bilstein and they test their suspensions on the Nordschleife.....in the video it looks like how my Bilstein suspension behaves, tends to wobble, but keeps stable--> low compression and firm rebound damping rates.
it does look weird but thats how it works there
I have to agree with you about the starting and finishing position.
The problem what I see is, that there's no other regular exit on the track, Nissan would have to pay marshalls to open the other exits around the track, what would cost them extra money + the extra time to rent the Nordschleife, because the officials have to lock it down for tourist driving (what brings more money at the end of the day), so they have to enter and leave quickly.
I say they should've started at the Nordschleife entry at the Döttinger Höhe instead out of the pits at the Tiergarten section.
When they pass the finish line at the Döttinger Höhe they automaticly would get to the pits and could leave the track from there.

he did bounce around a lot, but he was riding the hell out of those apex's in almost every turn trying to shave every millisecond he could. i thought he was gonna loose it once or twice. i did see some instances where he maybe could have came on the accelerator a little sooner though.
absolutely awesome driving.

^ that is my feeling, he drove awesome but towards the end he drove like 9 times better and harder, if he drove the same way the whole time he woudl either crash or make it there alot faster.trust me im not saying i could do better, he just showed he could do more at the end than he did for most of the vid.
RIP my very best friend. DJ aka djzstang1 you will be missed dearly. I love you bro.

the track seemed dry to me, what isn't necessarily natural, but the first half of the Norschleife is realy steep downward going, while the second half mostly consists of winding flats and some upward going parts where you can push the car more.
Videos dont realy show how "light" the car gets at some spots of the track, what can be realy terrifying at this kind of speed
