Karmann is no more
Legendary German automobile design studio Karmann, designer of the famous VW KArmann Ghia, has closed it's doors for good. A victim of the economic downturn.
Too bad....they sure did pen some cool looking cars over the last 50+ years.

Volvo P1800S (very cool!)

my favorite...Triumph TR6

Triumph looks good, I've always considered the others pretty ugly. Never understood the KG's fame.

I love the p1800's.
One of these days when my time has come, You can take me back to where I'm from.
Put me on a westbound train, An' ship me off in the pourin' rain.

^I'd love one swapped with some sort of light, high revving engine and a 6speed, I.E. T56.

There have been some really interesting successful swaps into TR6's over the years. Here is a link full of 'en:
Modified and Upgraded Triumph Photo Gallery: Engine Swaps & Performance Mods!
Great cars. But finicky little bastards. I had one for several years. I miss it, even though it seemed to hate me. Me and my pop did a complete mechanical rebuild on it. It was cherry. Below is a pic of my former '73 TR6.
I sold it to some rich dude a few years back. Found out he totaled it in a single car accident. What a asshat....all my hard work down the shitter.
Karmann sure did a great job styling that car though. Pretty machine.

I had a 69 that I ran for a season in autoX.
Like the beetle there are a ton of mods available for these cars, including turbo kits.
the 69's and later were also 12volt cars and had front disk brakes
also that was when they went to an independent rear suspension
The one I had was stripped out and weighed around 1400 pounds.
Corbeau racing seat w/ 4pt harness
A fresh set of KYB gas racing shox and a set of rear disk brakes from CB performance (Porsche 914 calipers basically) and that car stopped in half the distance it did stock.
Headers w stinger pipe - the bitch was LOUD
but alas no power
sold it to a friend who is now in the midst of put a 2.0L Type IV motor in with setup he has going he's looking at hp in the 120's

I even used to have a Volvo 1800es
