45K is a joke.
1989-1995 SHO was a great car and a real factory sleeper. We would steal my dad's back when we were 15/16 and go out looking for mustangs and camaros to race. most people were clueless back then (1991).1992 Civic stock k20 w/boost: 10.69@133

$45k will get you one loaded. And thats just MSRP. It will sell for less. Also, don't forget the new SHO starts at $37K, and at it's still packed with features.
At that price it's still a bargain for a full size car sporting a 365HP twin turbo V6 w/ AWD.
Like I said, you'll pay a lot more for an Audi, BMW, or Lexus in it's class, and it's likely they still won't outperform it.
And yes, the original SHO was very cool. Don't forget though, that was still a $24K car about 20 years ago....so $37-$46K is about right when you adjust for today's dollar.

I wish they would of worked on the design more, i mean the new mustang looks good IMO, but this little thing sounds bad ass.
Will it follow the typical rep of a taruas tho? Break down after 50k miles?
And whats the HP on the new Mustang GT? Dont tell me that fords family sedan will make a fool out of the Mustang GT... thats like there top of the line. Besides the Ford GT Right?

SHO was 19.5k when it came out in 1989, and we paid 14K for the 1990 and 17K for the 1994(both new). Back then a bmw 535 was 45k and the SHO beat it by 1.3 sec in the 1/4 mile. The original SHO was .2 of a second slower than the 60k M5 in the 1/4. The SHO back then was also with-in a couple of tenths in quarter mile time to most performance car(M3,z28,t/a,5.0,M5,rx7 turbo, awd dsm,300zx tt, supra turbo,944s2,mr2 turbo). It was a bargin ($$ for speed). the "new" sho would need to run mid 12's to get any respect from me (and have a manual gear box). What does it run? a high 13? Hell even my 63 yo Dad called me pissed off with what they did to the SHO. I told him to look at the CTS-V if he wanted a real "SHO".
also the 1990 SHO we had went 330k miles and the 1994 went to 240k miles. neither had any major mechanical issues and the only thing replaced were the brakes and clutches.

I said $24K for a first gen SHO only because that's what I found when I searched MSRP for a '90 SHO on the net.
The only problem with the new SHO is that they called it the SHO. People that remember the old original SHO are expecting a no-nonsense drivers' car, the new SHO is not that. Instead it's a performance/luxury car. The SHO has matured, just like the audience it's intended for.
If you still really rather have the old school front drive SHO....they sort-a still build it, it's called the 240HP Fusion SE-L.
2010 Fusion SE-L 1/4 mile 15.3 @ 91.8mph
1991 Taurus SHO 1/4 mile 15.2 @ 92.5 mph
The new Taurus SHO is projected to turn around 13.2 in the 1/4, pretty good for a 4100lb V6 luxo cruiser. I think people people need to let go of the comparison to the old SHO and look at this new SHO for what it is, a completely new and very nice, capabale luxury sedan.Last edited by fastforward; 06-25-2009 at 12:40 PM.

the good ole yamaha motor
i liked the old SHOs. finding one in decent shape, even 10 years ago, wasn't easy. too many of them got sold to WT who drove them into the ground.
the new one should have been labeled as a mercury or something. the car has alot going for it, even with the questionable styling it has, but i don't know how many people are going to jump with the pricetag for a ford, no matter the performance numbers. i know labeling it a mercury might be a travesty all in itself, but i guess we'll see. i DO hope they are making the production numbers a bit limited...do what they did with the mazdaspeeds, build a certain amount and if the demand is there, up the production...the last thing they need to do now is mega fail by building a shit ton of these $45K speed bricks and then they don't sell.
the new taurus' overall i think will sell pretty well as long as they hold up.
i'd be all over this car if it was $32-35K. they'll be a nice used pickup in 3-4 years.

its not bad. Id rather have this than my folks 09 Impala SS. Its a $31k sedan with a LS4 V8 that doesnt have any really cool things and the interior is just so blah. A couple grand more for a base SHO seems nicer

The 2010 Taurus SHO will be built at Ford’s Chicago (Ill.) assembly plant and will be available in dealerships this summer, starting at a base price of $37,995, including destination.

Why wait 3-4 years...Of course in a few months it will sell considerably less than MSRP.

heck if the economy stays the same, i could wait 6 months and wait for one of their deal festivals they have or sales event and probably pick up a new one for 4-6K under. if i could walk out with one of those for under $32K, sign me up right now.
drive it for a year and start to pay it off, get about 20k miles on it...by then, there should be some parts out for it
intake, TBE, tune. should be good enough for sleeper city.

What made the sho great was that back in 1989 a low 15 second car was considered fast, but today it is not. Today a Toyota camary can run mid 14's. The old SHO was the equivalent of getting a 12 sec car for around 30k-ish today. I guess for me the new SHO just does not add up. But, I also feel that all cars are insanely over priced now a days. I just wish the new one was a modern day version of the original.

Curb weight 4368 lbs?
Those HP numbers dont seem that impressive when it has to haul that much weight around. Oh yeah and I would never spend that much money on this car, but I would consider it for half that price.
