Anyone know the AEM EMS fairly well? I'm not able to start my car.
Quick rundown, Nissan VQ35DE engine with AEM standalone. AEM is coming on and connecting to my laptop. Looking for some ideas.
The car has run for almost 2 years great, never a real issue. I was coming home last night, came up on a long empty straight and decided to open it up to, say for example, top of 3rd gear. I then slowed down rather quickly (just brakes, not engine, clutch was in) I have pretty large brakes and grippy tires. I looked down and the engine had stalled during slow down. I made sure all the electronics were on and popped the clutch in 2nd or 3rd, I read some RPMs on the dash, but the engine didn't kick over. Reset all of my electronics/ECU, tried to pop the clutch again, same thing, RPMs read, but the engine wouldn't hold its own, didn't help to press the gas.
I also tried clutch in and start with the key, just cranking, no starting. Alternator was running fine at 14-14.5V, new battery. Engine cranks fine, but no start, every so often, I get a LOUD backfire when starting, which is actually somewhat normal on my setup, I have header to resonator to dump.
I pulled out the plugs to check them out. I only pulled 2 plugs so far, will pull the rest once I remove my manifold. They were a tad bit loose for my taste, but they looked fine/average worn. I put the boot on, grounded the plug. I am getting a spark, but it looks very weak. Keep in mind, I have individual coil packs. I'm getting +/-12V to the coil and a negative trigger signal. I run a wasted spark, 3 drivers, 6 cylinders, I can't tell if I'm getting both because the spark looks kinda weak. I still think the engine could start on this spark.
I could smell gasoline in the 2 cylinders and a poof of air when I crank. Once I get the I.M. Off I'm going to replace all the plugs and check the compression. What else should I check while I'm at it? A test light confirmed I'm getting a signal for the injector and a signal for the spark, but I only tested 1 cylinder so far, more to do.
I checked the AEM EMS software on my laptop, I don't know it that well, but I am reading about 150RPM when I crank, the injector signals look fine according to the software, but I didn't do a data analysis. Also, someone already suggested to check for 'Sync OK', I'll do that tomorrow.

I finally got it fixed. I had figured that all timing was taken care of by the Cam angle sensors. Turns out, when I hit the brakes, the car decelerated so fast it dislodged the crank pos sensor. The crank sensor was half way out and it was only getting a weak signal off of the flywheel.
Anyhow, it's running fantastic, now. Better than before.
