Donate to the American Cancer Society as it benefits far more people. While children's heart defects are a tragedy, cancer affects far more people- white, black, asian, hispanic, old, young, middle-aged, female, male, gay or straight... you get the point. I doubt that there's a single person in here who hasn't been affected by cancer be it yours or someone elses.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in developed nations.

I think any possible donations need to end up in a Local 4 Star Charity that supports Children in some manor.

2 that I know of are "All Childrens Hospital Foundation", St Pete Charity Navigator Rating - All Children's Hospital Foundation
and Childrens Cancer Center in Florida Charity Navigator Rating - Children's Cancer Center

Note their efficiency and administrative expense ratio's. Put our money to good use in our local community.
