Little by little the truth emerges. LOL

Pay a lawyer or pay the government. Your choice.

Lawyer or not I would go to court and prepare to deal with the cop. Sometimes the cop will offer you a deal before the court begins. They have offered me deals like that most every time I went to court. Just go to court and be a remorseful kiss-ass.

If someone's looking for an opinion, they should really include all the necessary information. Knowing your record and knowing that you just got a reckless driving ticket, you should consider getting a lawyer to represent you. If your driving record is nothing to brag about and went to court yourself; in my opinion, there's a slim chance you will leave court to your satisfaction. Sometimes it takes money to get what you want. A lawyer might be costly, but the cost of an lawyer will be far cheaper considering your insurance will go up (expect quite a bit), if you look for a job in the automotive industry, there's a great potential that you can be turned down due to your record, etc.......just my .02

Honestly, and just be honest, 'cause we're all friends here, how badly did you break loose? You have nothing to gain or lose with us. Are we talking a chirp of the tires, or a TFATF Tokyo Drift slide across all lanes of traffic with smoke everywhere? Reckless Driving is a pretty weighty ticket, I don't think the cop would do that to you for an accidental slip of the throttle.

Before you do ANYTHING, PAYYYYYYYY your traffic fines. If you show up in court with unpaid citations on your record, forget any leniency, they may even suspend your license until you pay. Also, finish the traffic school online to show that you are willing to improve. And finally, call a law firm (one with a free hotline) and discuss your options. Figure out what your charges could be, what fines you could be assessed, and what the odds are for a successful trial date.

I'm not trying to say you're screwed...but best of luck to you!

One time i was getting a haircut and then when i left i seen my boy and he has a v6 mustang and always likes to show off so he was power braking it and i was in my grls 07 auto civic and i pulled the ebrake and stepped on it and the tires bearly spun, i looked back and there was a cop running(....yes running) towards us and then took our dl and went for his car came back gave us court dates for reckless driving because we were racing....i was scared and went to court and the case got droped, nobody ever told us why, so i realy dont think u slipping ur tires will have u go to jail just go to court and explain them that u were turning around and ur tires lost grip, they should understand.

cop doesn't have to show up for initial court date... it's a criminal offense. If you make it into a trial he will get called it.

Just a bit of advice, whether or not your telling us the WHOLE story (which I suspect your not) make sure you aren't lying to yourself if you wanna make a trial out of it. If you really were screwin around and did a little drift demo around a u-turn, you better be absolutely positive he didn't have a dash camera that saw it. I LOVE letting people swear up and down they didn't do it and that i'm a gigantic liar... then playing the video. I mean it's seriously priceless to watch.

There was no smoke, and I didnt go across any lanes, I did the turn and came in to the middle lane, which I always would, my turn radius isn't big enough to turn right in to the first lane.

just because there was no smoke doesnt mean crap. you could have spun the shit out of your tires and never produced any smoke.

chirping and squealing/spinning out tires are completely different.

chirping lasts a second or less, literally. Whereas the latter lasts more than that. I chirp all the time if its raining outside and i happen to be sitting at a red light on top of that white paint. It just happens, i don't move very fast but its for a brief split second.

So chirp or tire squeal?
