I work for state farm and there are so many variables it's ridiculous. Are you going under your parents policy or by yourself? Under your parents policy would be ideal, and save you several hundred dollars, easily.

New driver, parents' policy, fairly utilitarian car, BASIC (and I mean basic) coverage, you're looking at about $160/month. Good student discount (B average or better) will cut that to about $130, depending on your company. I'm 19, have basic coverage, no accidents, no tickets, and have been driving for 3 years now, and my insurance is still about $135.

a coupe will cost more money because most are considered sports cars. i was gonna get a civic coupe for my first car under my parents policy and the quote was 214 a month. i decided to buy my parents escape and the payments started out at 150 a month for full coverage. now they are down to 125.
