now that i re read it u prolly meant both. i had my front one of for just a day while i was getting fog lights put in and i got hassled for it but never got a ticket. so idk if its illegal but im pretty sure u could talk ur self outta one if it is

I dont think you need a bumper, but I'm pretty sure you need the bumper support/crash beam/etc.

its a Z, in japan they didnt even come with those bumpers back then, it was an american standard.
you may get away with it since its such an old car and it may not be easily recognizable by cops or you could switch to the slightly smaller 240z bumpers.

i spent a few days riding around with no hood fenders or bumper and never had a problem. The plastic bumper serves no real purpose but to look good so why would it be necessary to have it. just my 2cents
