c5 z06 or...??
Probably going to be picking up a new car within the next few weeks.. My main goals are RELIABILITY and being decently fast.. The c5 zs in my price range have 70-90k miles on them, im not very familiar with corvettes how long will that engine stay reliable? The only other car that really interests me is an STI which isnt all that fast, but is reliable. If theres any other cars out there that are SEMI new that im missing let me know. I probably wont be modding the car I get (I say this now) so I can save for another rx7.

I know I know.. I dont expect anyone to understand my decision or my situation for that matter (its complicated) but Im a college student I cant afford insurance on two cars and I need something that will get me to class and back without getting in the car and going "please turn on, please turn on" (even though after everything Ive had done to it, it works perfect).. you catch my drift.. I absolutely LOVE my car and its going to be hard as hell for me to get rid off.. Im going to be saving every month and after college im going to buy another one, but for now I need a more DDable car. |

![]() its because all the dumb young kids get them, wreck them, rack up tickets and they are a theft target for stripping. I actually do love Z06's even though I'm a subie head. An STi is a few simple mods away from being faster than a z06 but then play with the vette a bit and its tapping on the door again. So both are equally fast with simple bolt-ons (since you say you won't mod now)... my problem with a vette or anything RWD is I like hanging the ass out and doing the occassional brake stand. that gets expensive fast ![]() My azenis lasted about 3 months on my RWD subie. Personally, I'd get a gas sipped DD and put an LS2 into your FD |

The car has 100 more horsepower, gets better gas mileage, very reliable, lower insurance, and is just as much fun to drive as an STI. Trust me, from what you posted, with a C5 ZO6, you get more of everything. If you drive normal around town and use that 6th gear, you can get into the low 20s mpg around town and close to 30mpg on the highway. So you know, for reliability concerns, GM LS6 engines can go up to 200,000 miles and more, with no problems, with proper care. End of discussion.... |

the main standpoint is the extra HP the z06 has but the STi also has its benefits like more room with the 4drs. drove both and see what you like best. id go with the z06 since i have already had an STi. had a blast with that thing |

The z06 is a very nice car. Just wondering though, why not go with a 03-04 terminator cobra? You can just spit at the engine and gain 50hp... (figuratively speaking folks...) And I'm not a big fan of ford vehicles, but the 03-04 cobra is on my wish list of cars to own in the near future...
I love my STi and God knows I have a ball with this car overall... But like faded said... drive both (stock for stock preferred) and make a better decision. Good luck! |
