the main standpoint is the extra HP the z06 has but the STi also has its benefits like more room with the 4drs.

drove both and see what you like best. id go with the z06 since i have already had an STi. had a blast with that thing

Remember, the Subaru has to power 4 wheels, full time, instead of two. That doesn't do well for gas mileage regardless of 4 cylinder or not.

4 doors is a plus, if you like that sort of thing. I'm usually by myself 90% of the time, so for me it doesn't matter. He's coming from an RX7, which I believe is also a 2 seater. So the ZO6 isn't any different in passenger seating than his current car.

the z06 is a great car, the motor should last a long ass time as long as its stock, my friend has 130k miles on his 98 and just added a 150 shot

Get the Z06. The LS6 get remarkably good gas mileage when you dont mash the gas pedal and drive like a grandpa. Mods also free up some MPG's. I just got 2-3 more MPG while highway cruising on my LS6 by adding a catback.

I would not be in the market for a car with 70-90K, especially a chevrolet. Just too much wear and tear on it. If it were me, I would look at something with less miles

I knew a guy who had a c5 z06 and a evo both of roughly the same year

evo was twice as expensive to insure

Are you biased?

If they were taken care of, GM Corvettes last a very long time. Seriously, when was the last time you saw some beat up shitty C5 running around?

yes I am biased. I owned a LS1 car for 5 years and just traded it in on a LS2 car.

I see beat up shitty C5s all the time.

Like I said, if it were me, I would not even consider buying a used car with 70-90k on it unless I had serious plans to replace alot of it.

I say especially a vette because in my experience, LS engines are good at alot of things, but high mileage durability is not one of them.

my experience with small block chevys---spin rod bearings anywhere from 100-130k. everyone I know who had a small block chevy it happened to

my friend had a bolt on 2000 reg cab short bed 5.3 silverado and he spun it at 135k (highway miles)

another friend had a 95 impala ss spun a rod bearing at 103k

and yet another friend had a 98 LS1 T/A that spun its rod bearings at 115k

now I'm just waiting for our boat (5.7 chevy small block) to blow up. its been going strong for three summers now but it's time is coming soon

ive got a 98 vette with 82,000 miles and it runs great and does get good gas milage, when your not racing. Ive just had to replace the ac belt so far. Its very reliable thats why i havent modded it yet. I'll keep modding my talon until its paid off though

I say keep the FD and get a cheap daily driver. What kind of (reasonable) options are there to reduce insurance on either car to make it more like insuring just one car? I'm kind of thinking about the same thing.. is there weekend insurance? low mileage discount (I don't think that saves much)?
Otherwise, I would say get the STI.

Seriously? I have a friend that has a '98 Corvette M6 at 160k miles on the original engine. It was taken care of from day one. Nothing major mechanically has gone wrong with it other than some belt replacements, alternator, some interior wear. He recently replaced the radiator, a/c compressor, and the water pump just for caution. The car still runs strong and burns no oil. The 6 speed still shifts smooth. Mechanically the car is very sound. I don't know what LS1s you've had experience with, but you take care of the car and it's going to run good for along while.

really, neither car mentioned has any reliability issues if maintained properly...so its a dumb argument...ignore the chevy haters...and yes, I'm obviously a subie guy
