I rode in one and for the price it was ok, had pep but not power. The only thing I can complain about is that the ONLY one they had on the lot was an absolute base base base model with tan interior..which ,made the dashboard look really funny. Reminded me of riding in an isuzu work truck. But the black looks much cooler.
I would turbo the stock engine lol. I have seen kits. But then again saying you have a k is way cooler. But I could drive it everyday for awhile without problems.
2nd complaint, wtf is with the drum brakes?

So, spending like 14k is saving you money, how?
I'd NEVER buy one, for like 4k more you can get a civic that looks way better and gets like the same gas mileage.

A girl I work with was going to buy one. I think she said it was going to be around $20K out the door. She ended up buying a new Focus ZX3 SE for under $12K and it has 35 more HP from the ZETC 2.0 liter and room for 4 real sized adults, lots of cargo and has a good warranty. Plus it gets over 35mpg.
I dunno, might not be your bag, but another option to consider....plus I'm biased.

No, none of them were recalled. The Fit is a runaway hit for Honda (Jazz in Europe).
I like 'em. But don't buy one yet. 2009 model year is already getting a re-design, so no need buying the current model. There is also word that the new one actually gets engine choices including a hybrid...and better yet a DIESEL! The new Accord diesel coming out gets 54 MPG out of a 2.2. With a diesel 1.5 in the Fit...mileage could be up to 65-70.

The Fit is not a car, it's transportation. Besides, it's too late in the game to worry about getting a new car to save fuel. Who wants their last car to be a subcompact?
Try doing the speed limit, taking off easier from a stop, slowing down gradually when you know you're coming to a stop, overinflating your tires, combining your errands into one trip, shutting the air conditioner, and eliminating unnecessary driving. Basically, you have to take all the fun out of driving in order to save fuel.
Buying a B-segment subcompact is the same as paying somebody to take all the fun out of driving for you; do it yourself and save some money. Besides, it's nice to have some power in reserve when you're driving, just in case you actually need it. A subcompact has nothing in reserve, it's always driving at its limits."The genius of any slave system is found in the dynamics which isolate slaves from each other, obscure the reality of a common condition, and make united rebellion against the oppressor inconceivable." ~Andrea Dworkin
"If... the machine of government... is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law." ~Henry David Thoreau, 1849
That's right, bitches, TWO quotes!
