Try doing the speed limit, taking off easier from a stop, slowing down gradually when you know you're coming to a stop, overinflating your tires, combining your errands into one trip, shutting the air conditioner, and eliminating unnecessary driving. Basically, you have to take all the fun out of driving in order to save fuel.

Buying a B-segment subcompact is the same as paying somebody to take all the fun out of driving for you; do it yourself and save some money. Besides, it's nice to have some power in reserve when you're driving, just in case you actually need it. A subcompact has nothing in reserve, it's always driving at its limits.
hahaha....thats not gonna happen....^

i drive a 4cyl s10 x-cab....there is no power reserveit's all go, all the time with my truck just to keep up and not get smushed...a fit prolly is quicker than my truck....i'm thinking about the new si

I doubt a fit is quicker than a 4 cylinder s10, even though that's just like saying which of the two turtles is faster

honestly if you're in the new car market just for the sake of saving money on gas then don't waste your time, it will take YEARS to even get close to offsetting the cost and then you have a vehicle that is worth much less than the day it rode off the showroom floor

I like 'em. But don't buy one yet. 2009 model year is already getting a re-design, so no need buying the current model. There is also word that the new one actually gets engine choices including a hybrid...and better yet a DIESEL! The new Accord diesel coming out gets 54 MPG out of a 2.2. With a diesel 1.5 in the Fit...mileage could be up to 65-70.
actually there are recalls:
2008 Honda FIT Recall

"US: Airbag-related recall for the Honda Fit
By Glenn Brooks
23 January, 2008
Source: Automotive World

American Honda is recalling 34,300 examples of the 2007 and 2008 model year Fit subcompact to replace a faulty wiring harness.

The possible fault concerns a sensor that keeps the airbags from deploying when a child occupies the front passenger seat."

Here are some other Honda recalls, yep that's right...even mighty Honda has recalls.

My vote is for the new si.

I was looking and the fit and tried to like it, I mean I really tried. It's cute in an ugly kind of way. Much like that breed of cat with the pushed in faces. I just don't like the fit, I'm sure it'd be fine with a k-series though....

nobody buys a car to save money on gas in the long run. That played out shit about "it will take years to pay off".
That may be true, but in modern society, we live day to day. Do you plan your budget five or ten years down the road?
No, you buy a car that gets better gas mileage and notice a difference in what you spend immediately.
If it were me, id get a new corolla, they get 40 mpg highway and they look really nice...
