500+hp Evo9 oem turbo, powered by corn

500hp on 2 dollar a gallon gas? Yes!

(change the belt) I also put 10/30 syn oil (had 20/50 dyno) and messed with my stock WG some but it still tapered to 24psi by 6k.

I drove the car 3hr in the snow and rain to Seattle with 20gal of E85 in the trunk. The car has about 3k now on it at the 450whp + and the stock turbo is still holding strong.

This also make me a firm believer in Dyno Jets. I picked up just what I wanted from my small mods and dynoing on 2 different dyno jets and getting the right # on both.

My goal of 10s and close to 130mph in a full weight SSL on Stock Turbo should happen by the end of the year.

The car is running a tad rich out the top. Have not had much tunning time with the 2nd pump and 1200s I put in last week.

Mods to date that matter for power.

Is that a normal looking dyno sheet for an evo?

Why does it fall off so quickly after 6k? 500 hp stock turbo evo is very impressive, but it seems the powerband is shot to hell since the turbo is so tiny. Talk about having to short shift.

Two reasons the graph looks way off (but is actually somewhat correct)

    1) He's using the stock wastegate actuator. I believe boost threshold on the oe wga is 14psi, so it can't hold the boost up top (he peaks 28psi and falls to 24psi). A Forced Performance or Forge wga would help this and free up additional hp

    2) he starts the sample really late (4500rpm), and revs it too high. 272's are out of breath on a stock turbo by 7500rpm, and the stock turbine wheel is very restrictive beyond 450whp. Keep in mind, this turbo will fully spool at 3200rpm

That was my idea, its not exactly a big turbo, and like you said the big cams arnt helping once the turbo is past its effiency.

Like I said its cool that it can do it, but I still think its pointless when he can make more useable power with a larger turbo, say a GT3071

i thought it was more impressive that this was done on DOT approved, street legal 2.XX/gallon fuel made from a renewable resource. Also, a 3071 can't touch this turbo on spool, and i invite you to look again at the 470 ft/lb torque. This engine probably makes north of 300ft/lbs from 2800 rpm to 7600rpm. Thats a broad, usable band, as evidence by the 11.2 sec q/m time.

I agree, it seems like he is doing things the hard way, just so he can say it's on a stock turbo.

But it is a bad ass car nonetheless
