Hows the FWD SR20DET?
Since I got a job in St. Pete and live in Palm harbor (about 20 miles each way), the expedition isn't exactly the best ride to use for daily commute. My dads buying my mom a new car as a surprise and asked me if I want her infiniti G20. Its got miles on it, but the body/interior are mint. It runs fine and everything, nice car for a daily driver only thing I don't like is the color
. Its pretty slow, and with my job although I can't get tickets, I was thinking of replacing the motor soon due to the high miles anyways (if I do get it). Is it worth dropping in a SR20DET? What all would be needed for the conversion?
eBay Motors: 90+ Nissan Bluebird Sentra G20 Engine Turbo SR20DET (item 310039224334 end time Apr-17-08 08:19:27 PDT)
If I bought that, what would be needed besides the transmission? Or should I just replace the stock motor which is about half the price and is just a dro pin, and get some nice rims with the difference? Opinions would be appreciated, the car will be used as a daily driver for probably 6 months or so until I buy a new car. I will still own it then, just as a second car. Thanks

have you considered just turbocharging the existing motor? There's really not much THAT much difference between the two, mainly just compression. The rods and overall strength of the motor are about the same. Do some research, I think it'd be more trouble than its worth to swap that motor.

I did think about it, but with 157k miles how longs it gonna last? Its mostly highway miles, the person that owned it before us was the original owner, and drove it from tampa to jacksonville and back, every other day. It came with all the service records and what not, I know it was maintained but still high miles for a car. I could buy a replacement motor for about $800, but by the time I turbo and tune it, it might not be worth all the hassle.

^ You will find all info you need. If the car was taken care of properly don't be afraid of the high milage. The G20 tranny will work with the bluebird motor.Last edited by galaxy p; 04-15-2008 at 11:42 PM.

I wouldnt worrie about the mileage if its been decently taken care of.
I got a 156k toyota 4cyl right now that i plan on boosting i have no clue how well its maintained but i bet it will take 6psi np for along time to come.
and it just took 26runs in 3hrs at the track np.

you can pick up a FWD SR20det pretty cheap, depending the HP you want I would say pick up the new motor and freshen it up and drop it in there.
I always wanted to do this to a classic SER.

well the thing bout the bluebird in my opinion its more reliable then the gti-r. but then again the gtir produce alooot more power then the bluebird. parts are harder to find for the gtir and bluebird u can get it from anywhere. so if u wanna go with reliable i suggest bluebird and if u want power go with gtir, either way there both good engines

GTiR is a pain in the arse...
i know from experience lol
took me 3 months to find a crank shaft pulley.
its a badass motor just needs more money dumped into then need be.
just order a high compression jdm sr20de cam it...do your simple e/h/i and call it a day...you will be fairly close to 200hp with that simple setup.
and it will still save on some gas!
