S2K is way newer- also, you could buy one now, and it will be a car that drives you places, rather than a shell and a six month buildup and testing process (don't tell me you're going to do it faster after complaining about your current car and being a full time student). It sounds like you need a daily driver more than anything so I'd make your first requirement 1. Reliable car that isn't a project but is an actual mode of transportation.
You can always supercharge the S2K later on to add in the torque. It's a weekend project and people have run supercharged cars 100,000 miles without problems. Just a supercharger, wheels and tires, springs and shocks, and then leave it alone because those cars are a blast in stock form already. You have to change your perspective from "oh, it's such a downgrade from my current car" to "it's decently quick, handles well, and any car that runs is more fun to drive than a car that doesn't". I have at least a little bit of fun driving my stock 240, and that's coming from an 11 second, way better handling car. I love the V8 RX7 to death, but save that project for when you have the time and money, or at least a daily driver and the patience to build a car on the side over a long period of time. |

I would consider buying a completed project only if I knew the person who built it and A. had confidence in their abilities and B. trusted them not to screw me over. If I knew somebody who built a car, saw various stages of the build, saw how it was driven and how it drove, then yeah, I guess I'd consider that option if I wanted/needed a turn-key car. There's no way I'd buy a project car blind, without knowing its history. I've been bitten in the past and don't want to repeat the experience. One way around this- if it's a car built by an active member of the V8 RX7 board, it's almost like you know them and were around for the build. If the guy has a full build thread, illustrated with pictures, and a history of posts that pretty much outline what went wrong with the car and why he built it the way he did, I'd go for it. |

dude lsx FD, all you need is about 10-12k to do it your self and thats with a mounting kit and some extra goods, I only plan on spending 9k on my swap but thats because I'm doing the fab work myself.. Its an easy swap with the granny's kit, I haven't heard many good things about hinson . The wiring isn't that hard. A stock engine getting you in the mid to high 12s (maybe lower) and you can still keep all the comforts of your a/c p/s blah blah balh.
