things is turbo uprages are gonna require aftermarket manifolds or modification to the existing ones since they made the turbo and mani all one piece

Its a DSG type transmission, but rumors of a manual coming later have been floating around. If the DSG tranny is fast and fun, it isnt necesarily a deal breaker for me.

Um, pretty sure R34 GTRs were all Getrag 6 speed..I dont think we'll see too much aftermarket VR38 6 speed though, I imagine they'll have a factory true manual. Well I'd hope so anyways.

That would probably be pretty tough, there have been a few 350z's converted to AWD using the G35x drivetrain, but the only tranny that works with that config is a plain old 5-speed slushbox.

Nice. But I want a new supra too lol. Will never happen though because it is not cost effective.

we can hope that the DSG is just like the BMW's SMG, which uses the same clutch and trans, its just actuated electronically. If so, then it will still be aftermarket friendly

actually dsg is a whole new ball game in transmissions. there is not torque converter loss like an automatic, and the shifts are seamless due to having dual clutches(im not too keen on the details, but basically as u accelerate, the computer engages the next gear before disengaging the gear you are in, then it disengages from the old gear).
BMW's SMG is just as u said, a traditional manual controlled by the computer through hydrolics, electronics, etc.

one problem with dsg is that it's actually slower than bmw's and ferrari's SMG if it thinks u are going to accel/decel and u do the opposite. IE it preselects 4th gear, and suddenly u slow down to 2nd gear speeds.

yeah i don't like transmissions that guess what I'm going to do. Thats why I've never owned an automatic trans vehicle.
