i saw a show on them; a donk is really only supposed to be a regal or a caprice or something....something about they rear of the car looks like a donkey...
and tampa is infamous for them because there is some shop here, i think north tampa customs, that is famous for them...
it's over on columbus and armenia i beleive...cruise in there and hang out with them some time....

Personally...I love all cars...and I'm fascinated to see what they can do. I grew up around Restored antiques and Hot rods, I got into imports, Auto-X and Drifting, and now I'm getting into a 50's Kustom Kruiser. It's all about what makes ME HAPPY, and what I LIKE. My car IS my personality. Let them go sky-high...it's what they like. The word "Donk" originally reffered to the 1973 thru 1975 Caprice Classic or Impalas, the word has since lost its true meaning since the birth of the big wheel trend.

I remember maxim did an article on it once actually. they interviewed a BUNCH of locals, I actually recognize some of the cars.
Riding High Article on Maxim Online.
Dominique Antoine, owner of Donk mecca North Tampa Customs, offers us a vocab lesson. “The media always screw this up,” he growls. “A Donk is a ’71–’76 Chevy Caprice or Impala. It’s called a Donk because the back end slopes down in the middle, and it looks like a donkey’s ass.” Squared-off, high-riding ’77–’90 Caprices are Boxes, and the curvy ’91–’96 Caprices are dubbed Bubbles. Anything else is uncivilized.
"Does this look like a piece of crap to you? Like them spinnin' tires do you?"
