automatic transmission wont go into over drive

Default automatic transmission wont go into over drive

its a 2000 mercury cougar

when your foot is on the gas pedal it wont go into over drive but when you left off the gas pedal then it does go into over drive ?? what would cause this ?

A real reply.I have seen those go several times already.Every car has its problem areas and thats common on cougars.

Hmmm....my g/f's Mercury Sable kind of does the same thing. When you drive around town its fine, but when you get on the highway it starts blinking the tranny alert light and it doesnt go into OD. Sometimes it will work but most of the time it does that. Sounds similar to the problem you are having. LMk, if you figure it out.
