so check this shit out. i made this thread about this over 2 years ago.

someones taking advantage of the kit car laws
eBay Motors: Replica/Kit Makes : Skyline (item 130190694744 end time Jan-23-08 12:14:35 PST)

    few things

next is the whole kit car thing, ive already been to the DMV sometime ago and checked on it, if they didnt change the rules, then it should be the same. basically you have to give a make of a chassis, body kit, headlights, taillights, motor and you take that in, if you made your own chassis, then you list that. they dont even inspect the car for kit car purposes. so this is the 1 loop hole i found to be the easiest. Make a cage, weld on support beams and say you made the chassis, buy a bomex kit, say it was hand made fiberglass, find a similar power plant motor and say you used that, etc etc. This way, technically, when you imported the car for "parts only" you could still say you did, but then later installed the kit, made the according chassis modifications, etc. and there really isnt shit they can do about it.

so what if the thread is old? the shit gets brought up a shit ton, and he is updating us on what is going on...if you dont have anything good to say...GTFO

also, there is a company in sarasota that claims to sell "kit car" skylines as well, but this is the first well documented link i've seen of a "kit car" skyline...the vin plates and DOT stickers could fool alot of people...

Probably if you can fit a coke can in your cars pooper and it doesnt make upwards of 600HP, the exhaust is too big.

no offense, but your wrong. i could personally bring in an imported (right hand drive car), because I am a legal immigrant, and since i have an english driver's license (english as in from england), i could register it as a personal use car, but the title would have to stay in my name for a minimum of 1 year.

IF that was true, then you still wouldnt be able to bring it in from japan, youd have to pay out the ass for your UK skyline...and it still wouldnt be legal

Imported motor vehicles are subject to U.S. safety standards, bumper standards, and air pollution control (emission) standards. Most vehicles manufactured abroad that conform with U.S. safety, bumper, and emission standards are exported expressly for sale in the United States; therefore, it is unlikely that a vehicle obtained abroad meets all relevant standards. Be skeptical of claims by a foreign dealer or other seller that a vehicle meets these standards or can readily be brought into compliance. Nonconforming vehicles entering the United States must be brought into compliance, exported, or destroyed.
