Post Hurstmeister's Tech Write Up On The, Modular Engine Setup, To Foxbody Chassis.

    Hurstmeister

All 79 - 04 k-members,.. stock and aftermarket tubular will interchange and bolt on with pretty much no hassles (speaking from a only bolting it to the body perspective).

    How ever,..

The early 79 - 83/84 k-members are slightly narrower and the cars used longer a-arms. But since most dont have to deal with this I dont get into it.

The 94 - 04 Mustangs are still a Fox,.. even though they are designated SN95. The chassis and suspension on these cars have not changed from 79 - 04 with the exception of the IRS in the 99 - 04 Cobra's (which are also fully interchangeable with 79 - 98 Mustangs).

The problems come in with various wheels and axle widths/offsets used in these cars. 94 - 98 are wider in the front,.. but only because of longer a-arms and a longer axle length in the rear. The 8.8 housing itself did not change. The 99 - 04 have a wider 8.8 housing and use longer axles then the 94 - 98 cars as well.

You want to put a 4.6 in a fox the cheapest and simplest way possible. That would be using a 96 - 04 4.6 k-member and then using your Fox a-arms in order to keep the fox track width. Use 86 - 93 a-arms and you'll be fine. The Fox a-arms are about an inch shorter then the SN95 A-arms. Everything you want to do is fully bolt on plug an play with no hacking or modification needed.

Any 96 - 04 4.6 K-member will bolt to any other 79 - 93 Fox car and the 94-95 cars as well. But dont use the fox a-arms on the 94-95 cars. Use the stock a-arms.

As for the tubular k-members. I'm not 100% on the others,.. but I know for a fact that the QA1 and UPR both allow use of the stock a-arms. I ran stock a-arms on mine for a couple years before going to a coil over setup.

Not the greatest picture,.. but thats a QA1 with stock SN95 a-arms. Fox a-arms would bolt to it the same way. You can get most any QA1 or UPR tubular k-member for a 96 - 98 and it will bolt to your fox the same as it would to a 96 - 98. You just want the 96 - 98 for the 4.6 mounts.

Will do! Thanks Nick. Figured this would be a good article, seeing as there are more and more Modular>Fox builds.

Question: 4V modular into 87-93... Does this require hydroboost? Or will a manual brake master cylinder clear?
Asking because of Coyote 5.0 swap potentials if/when Ford releases a crate engine and the computer like the Hot Rod 3V.

Yes it does. Alot of guys are using the '94/'95 brake setups. Opens up alot of free space when swapped.

The 4V swap into a Fox ('87-'93) actually is a bit of a tight fit. The 4V is larger in size than a 460 and its obviously all in the heads. So you need to clear up as much room as possible. I have seen people at shows with the 4V swaps and mantain the stop brake booster/master cylinder but for any type of work to be done to the engine, it has to be removed.

You can use the Mark VIII engine harness but when you move into the interior part of the harness a few wires have to be tweeked, lenthened and soldered. Snag you a '96-'98 Cobra ECU and there ya go!

what about the PATS? how would u go by getting rid of that or bypassing it so the car will crank? or would u just rewire it into the fox? (thats if you have a sn95 donor)

Get a chip burned and a tuner can turn off pats in the chip. Or get a handheld and have a tuner do the same thing.
