460 swap gurus step in please
So I've been thinking about going crazy and swapping a 460 in my notch project. Getting all the parts over time isn't a problem as I'm in no rush.
I've just started looking up info on doing the swap so I'm pretty clueless right now.
One thing the car must have is a manual transmission. I've seen a few threads on other boards talking about swapping in a TKO600.
What other manual transmissions are a good choice? It doesn't have to necessarily be a 5 speed.
Other than the engine mounts, oil pan, headers and some work on the trans hump, what else is involved?
I'm not looking to make huge power for the drags, just looking to do something different. I'm not that excited about putting the 302 back in.
Any info would be great!
Thanks.

I thought you were building a road racer of sorts.a 460 would make it to nose heavy for the turns.

I got a compliment on my "cool mustangs" the other day. Funny thing is, I dont own any??
I don't worship the devil. I agree with many of the things he tells me, but I don't worship him.

Mustangs aren't known for their handling prowess. Adding another 150 lbs to the nose won't help overcome that stigma.
But 460 mustangs are sweet. Very easy to work on believe it or not.

There are tons of parts for 460 motors to work in fox bodies. Dimension wise,.. it fits better then a 4.6 does.
As for trannys,.. you have a lot of options. They even have bell housings to mount a T5 up to a 460. So long as it stays on the street,.. a stock T5 should be fine. But a built T5 like a Gforce setup would hold up as good as a TKO would.
Toploader tranny's are notchy and loud. My father inlaw had a 69 Mach1, 428 with a 4 spd. Loved the car,.. but slamming gears took some training. Plus locating a toploader will be pricey at best,.. and you wont have any over drive.
TKO 600 will be pricey also. But will hold up to the abuse just fine. TKO 600's have issues power shifting above 6000 rpm. A 460 doesnt really like to spin above 6000 so you shouldnt have any problems if you go that route.
I think the most affordable avenue will be to build a T5 and use that or if you dont mind an auto,.. then run a C6. C6 would probably be the absolute cheapest and most trouble free. But again,.. no OD. My father inlaw has 2 C6 tranny's that need to be rebuilt,.. but both will fit 429/460 engines.

Thanks for all the info guys! The nice thing is I'm not in a rush so I can take my time finding all the parts and figuring out what to do.
How long do you think this 4 banger T5 I have would hold up?
