Any Postal damage claims?
anyone had to do a postal damage claim?
and who claims, the "sender" or the receiver"?
I shipped a set of vic jrs usps and insured them, he just contacted me and told me it was received, box was damaged and ripped open, he made the carrier sign to this effect, and when he opened the undamaged head was damaged and a couple pieces were missing. I bought the insurance and shipped the package (in big blocks of styrofoam no less) but he received it in damaged condition.
anyone know or have any experience.

UPS is a PITA to file an insurance claim with over damaged items during shipping.
Last year I sold the S351 wing from my wife's Cobra on Craigslist for $175. I had the thing wrapped in 3 layers of bubble wrap and then tapped a cardboard box to wrap around it. It was very protected. I shipped through the UPS store here in New Port Richey. I had it insured for $300. The guy lived in Texas and he wasnt home when UPS dropped it off. It was leaning on his front door when he got home and the box was torn,.. the sheets of styrofoam I used to protect the edges and corners was all crumbled up and falling out of the box he said. He took some pics with his cell phone and sent them to me.

I had the insurance paper and the shipping papers here in Fla so I go to the UPS store and tell them that UPS damaged the wing I shipped and I needed to file an insurance claim. Immediately the old man that runs the place asks me how well I boxed it up and what I used. I told him that it wasnt my first rodeo,.. I sell a lot of car parts and I know how to box something up. So then he tells me that I need to show him a receipt for the wing to verify its value. He said UPS isnt going to pay $300 just because thats what I insured it for. I started to get pissy with him and then ask why when I told him the value was at $300 and he charged me extra to insure it for $300 he didnt ask for a receipt then to prove what it was worth. I argued that if I paid insurance for $300.. then I need to collect $300. He wouldnt budge. Well this would have been fine,.. but the problem was that the wing came with the car when we bought it. So I didnt buy the wing. So he wanted to see someone who sells the same wing to see what it sells for. I couldnt do that either because Saleen no longer makes the S351 wings. There is only 1 aftermarket company that makes that wing design now,.. but its not a genuine Saleen wing. And even they sell the wing for $375. I emailed him the web link to show what it was selling for. I never got a response back.
Now this whole time the guy in Texas is being very patient. But he wants his money back or a good S351 wing. So I go back to the UPS store and the old fart tells me that UPS will only pay $150 for the wing because it was a used wing and not worth full retail value. I started getting pissed off and raising my voice. I told him that I sold the wing to a guy in Texas,.. the guy paid me $175 plus $47 to ship the same thing. That $150 is no acceptable and unless he wants me to report him to the better business bureau and get sue him in small claims court,.. he needed to come up with $300. He then told me to fuck off and to get out of the store. I said ok,.. well then at least give me the claim number with UPS so I can follow it up on my own. He didnt want to give it to me. I then got in his face and threatened to break his face and then he goes ape shit and through the computer monitor at me from behind the counter. I then called the cops. Cops came,.. I explained to them everything that had transpired up until that point and told them that all I wanted was the claim number so I could take it up with UPS directly. Then I would leave. The cops made him give me the number. So I then contacted UPS directly,.. and when through the whole schpeal with them again,.. they said they needed a receipt for the wing to prove its value or they were not paying for it. I couldnt come up with one so I ended up mailing everything out to the guy in Texes and he finally ended up getting it resolved out there in Texes. I dont know if he got the full $300 or not. But I know I'll never ship through the UPS store ever again. Its a nightmare trying to put in a claim with UPS.

Wow Hurst...Triple threat there eh?
The reciever has to file the claim. It will require assistance from you though. Have him contact the USPS office closest to him about it. You could also help to expidite things by contacting your postmaster in your town about it. You will need your insurance paperwork, and your delivery confirmation paperwork.

sorry, USPS is united states postal service, not ups. I actually think this person might have been trying to scam me. all his texts claims of pics of damaged box, damages, heads are worthless. I told him lets see what insurance pays for, he texted me back in the middle of the night last night that he had the heads checked and they are fine and now he's happy? I smell a rat.............I guess I'll wait to see what kind of feedback he leaves, I'm all positive on ebay so far after years.
Oh well, thanks for the replies
