How in gods name does 1,966 days as a prisoner of war make one a better candidate for president?

Presumabely gives one a VERY deep respect for freedoms and rights that most politicians would trample over without a moment's notice, if nothing else.

How can you say he respects freedom when he supports the bill that took away hundreds of freedoms?

I can't even burn a flag in protest anymore. The government can search and seize your property without any warrants, without even telling you they searched your house. They can bug your phones while you're away at work, and can force telecommunications companies to turn over your call records without warrants. They can hold you in their custody indefinitely without charging you for anything, in a prison somewhere no one has ever heard of. So much for land of the free, the patriot act was this country's first step towards a dictatorship.

Okay Mr. O'Tool. I see what you did there, instead of addressing the issue I brought up, being that McCain can't have much respect for freedom if he supports a bill that eliminates hundreds of our freedoms, you chose to insult my intelligence and ignore the issue all together. I must say, touché. I think you should be our next president.

i dont see where he said that he was going to burn a flag, he simply said that he is not allowed.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

and shooting someone because you dont like the way they express themself, thats a good way to end up getting ass raped for the next 25- life

*edit* also he never said in what way the flag would be burned. Burning is actually the prefered way to dispose of a flag.

Thats what this country is supposed to be about. I had no fleeting thought of burning a flag, but I had the right to do it if I so chose. Now that its illegal, I'm almost tempted to burn it in protest of the patriot act. It conveys a sense of fear from the people who run this country when they pass laws that limit the publics right to disagree with them.

All the "you don't agree with me so I'm going to hurt you" opinionated idiots are whats hurrying this country to its end.

And since you mentioned Hondas suck, I'll put this to you. My car was built here in America, by American workers, the money goes to Honda of North America, which happens to be based in America. Honda actually has 72 parts or assembly facilities in the United States. My car is one of the most reliable cars built, with quality so high there has never been a tech bulletin or recall for anything but the floor mats. Literally. I also get 30mpg in the city, despite the fact that I have a CR of 11.1:1, and I rev to 9000rpms. Your mustang was probably sourced to Mexico, where it was built by mexicans, then imported to this country. I'm willing to bet your gas mileage is in the single digits in the city. Not to mention Fords aren't exactly renowned for their build quality or reliability. Not that they're terrible, but they're no Toyota. So maybe you're faster in the quarter mile than I am, well hot damn I hope you have fun driving in a straight line 10-13 seconds at a time. It must be very exciting for you.

If your American citizen there IS no reason to burn OUR flag. It should be a law. Its called respect for your country.

Soon it will be ok that they take away our right to public protest and peaceful gathering, because we should RESPECT what they say and do regardless of how it impacts us. Then it will be alright to ban free speech, since we should respect the government anyway why should we be allowed to speak badly about them? Along with that goes the freedom of press, thats not necessary, and we've already lost freedom of expression. Then it will be alright to ban all citizens from having weapons, why do you need them anyway, the government has a military to protect you. Citys have police to protect you. Soon it will be alright to end all public elections, because the leaders know whats best for the country, and who can run it the best, not the citizens. So there IS no reason to not let the government search our houses without our knowing? There IS no reason to dispute the government when you're detained indefinitely with no charges brought against you? Privacy could be dangerous to the government, so we should just get rid of that all-together by implementing random search/seizures on every home in America.

Its small steps like this that lead to us losing all of our rights. We let them take away flag burning, which is guaranteed to us by the CONSTITUTION as a FREEDOM of expression. I don't understand why people support legislation that completely contradicts everything this country was founded upon.
