Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt(MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE ) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) filled it with GAS from Saudi Arabia and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his Computer (MADE IN MALAYSIA), Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals(MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in.. AMERICA.....

So, what is this suppossed to say; that globalization is a bad thing? Because if that is the point you're attempting to make the global economy disagrees with you.
By the way, who here has ever really had a truly hard time finding a job (at least 2 months or more with no interviews) because the job(s) they were looking for were outsourced, and not because their compensation expectations were too high or they were just plain lazy? I know I haven't. Nobody that I personally know has, either. Last edited by BAMF : 09-04-2007 at 12:46 AM. |

I know personally that anything made in China is a piece of shit...and slowing but surely they are devaluing our dollar and filling our country with junk, and now we are finding that junk is hurting us, like the kids toys they send us with lead in them.....

wow, are you serious?!?! fuck that......I would never buy a Chinese car....nor will I buy anything from Saleen if that happens...... China is junk, pure and simple. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a global market....Japanese stuff is great, great cars, great electronics, very high quality. And obviously, German cars, Italian cars, BMW, Benz, Ferrari etc., are alll great; I love Guinness. So I have no problem with good quality foreign products. It's this Chinese junk that they are slowly but surely hurting our country with and the poor quality of goods and services coming from third world countries that I have issues with. |

There are some people that got the short end of the stick here. Those are the people who globalization has forced to accept lower real(inflation adjusted) wages - the ability for something to be done almost anywhere...well..means something can be done almost anywhere. In order to have the businesses not outsource the job, we have to lower our Price on the Labor Market so that when all costs are factored in, it is equal to or lower than the price of the substitute good of Labor now on the market. While this is the short end of the stick for some people, I also want to remind you that from a global standpoint, this is progress. I mean, I like to pretend we're the center of the world as much as the next guy, but fact is as we become less and less restricted by geographic barriers, we're becomming less and less the center of even our own worlds. In short, it sucks, but its gotta be. Fuel prices are their own beast of an animal and in no way assosciated with your job being outsourced. Interestingly enough, though, they ARE assosciated with the price of milk doubling; fuel costs have an effect on all businesses which use them, and hence the price of their goods - whether they import, export, or keep it in the US.
