Wow! On Saturday, January 30th, Cruisin’ Orlando hosted a cruise in at Rock & Brews in Oviedo. This was the first event Cruisin’ Orlando held there, and it won’t be the last. What was it about this show that made me say “wow?” Three things working together made it a “wow” event. Let me explain them, and then I’ll tell you about the show.

Location: Rock & Brews is a rock-themed restaurant, founded by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss (and a few of their business partners). The food is great, the music is great, and the overall vibe of the restaurant feels like a natural fit with car shows. It’s a pet-friendly restaurant, and even has menu items available for your furry friend. That’s number one…
Vocation: Cruisin’ Orlando has been organizing and hosting car shows and cruise ins throughout Central Florida for over 16 years. DJ Don plays a killer mix of classic rock, along with the memorable hits from the ‘50’s and ‘60’s. Don also changes up the playlist, so you may hear Motley Crue and Jimmy Buffett in the same show. That’s number two…
Presentation: Outlaw Garage (formerly known as the Orlando Rat Pack) sponsored the event. In addition to bringing their blown, big-block, high horsepower cars, they also designed and made trophies for the show. To say the trophies were awesome does them a disservice. They created the coolest, most unique trophies I have ever seen. I can’t tell you how much I secretly wished there was a “best event photographer” trophy on the table, but there wasn’t. That’s number three…

Okay, now on to the show and what made it a “wow” event. This show had over 300 cars in attendance. By my conservative calculations, there was well over 100,000 horsepower in the parking lot! All of the Big 4 American car companies were represented. 4? Yep, there were even a few AMCs at the show. I saw a beautiful ’69 AMX, a cool orange ’70 AMX and a really cool Spirit that was powered by a small-block Ford drive train. And who could miss the yellow pro-street Matador. Wow!
Mopars were very well represented at the show. How often do you get to see not one but two hemi, four-speed Plymouth Savoys at a car show? If you said “never” you’re right. There was also Jim’s beautiful 1956 Chrysler New Yorker, as well as Challengers and Chargers (old and new), ‘Cudas and more. Did you see the pro-street ‘Cuda or the Coronet R/T? Wow!
Fords were all over the place as well. Mustangs (old, new, and everything in between) were in attendance. If you wanted to see a ’65 convertible or a ’16 GT, you could see it here. Dave’s ’67 Fairlane GT convertible is always an eye catcher, and so were the yellow ’32 deuce coupe, the two ’70 Mach 1s, the tubbed Ranchero, and the orange and black hi-boy. Oh yeah, there was also the blown, big-block pro-street Outlaw Garage Fairlane 500. Wow!
GM was the most dominant representative at the show. Most of the Outlaw Garage cars were blown, big-block Chevy powered rides. They had Camaros, a Nova, a ’55 Chevy, and even a pro-street Cutlass! In addition to the Outlaw Garage cars, there were Chevelles, Camaros (old and new), Corvettes (old, new, and everything in between), Bel Airs, Novas, trucks, and much, much more. When was the last time you saw a Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe? How about a Buick GS, or a straight-axle, gasser style Nova? Wow!
Do you like trucks? Had a bunch of those too. Willys, Ford, Chevy and Dodge were all there. At one point a group of 6-10 all cruised in together. Do you like motorcycles? Harleys, sport bikes, choppers, even an Indian were there.

Over 300 cars. Over 100,000 horsepower. Cars you’ve never seen before. Cars you may never see again. Heck, there was even a flyover by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office to shoot aerial video of the show! What can I say? Wow!

Thanks to the Seminole County Sheriff for this incredible helicopter fly-over video
