Need your .02

I posted this in General Car Chat, and wanted to see what kind of response I could get from you guys.
Ok, I'm contemplating doing a hybrid swap, and I'm sure it's been done...but I haven't been able to find anything about it on the internet. I want to take a AE86 coupe, and throw away the 4AC it has right now, and put in a KA24 with plans of turbo'ing it. Yeah, that's right, a turbo KA into a corolla. Just wondering if the crossmember needs to be modified at all, how hard would wiring be, and yes I did think about the fact that a stock sr-5 rear-end wouldn't hold up to that kinda power... I was thinking maybe a gt's rear-end, although I have heard they aren't good for more than 200HP?? Just looking for thoughts on this swap, how hard you think it might be, and approximately how much it might cost?

can you weld?

not are you planning to learn, but do you own a welder, understand how to properly use it, and understand what types of metal you need.

ORRRRR

are you ready to pay a shop to do this

if you answered NO to both of these, please dont continue your quest for a ka-t in a ae86, as realistically its not going to happen, so us walking you thru figuring out how to do it will completely be a waste of everyones time.

nothin wrong with iron blocks. you'd only need like 7psi 250whp setup to have a fun little car anyways.

spork up in NC did it. i dont think he is turbocharged yet, but i know he had a running KA in his corolla. i do not know much about it, perhaps he ran a megasquirt or something along those lines.

it would at least require custom mounts, perhaps tranny tunnel work depending on the size differences between corolla and 240sx transmissions and how you get it to sit in regards to how far back in the engine bay it sits.

i would think the GT-S rear end is enough, perhaps those who know about Taka's 400+whp AE86 might know what rear end he used.

do plan on alot of fab, wiring, and innovation, and money

there is pretty much no such thing as a understeer happy corolla..kinda like taking the weight out of the back of a car.. adding some more weight in the front works alot like that .. so much so as i feel the need to have a little more weight in the rear of my car and i only have a 20v and around 30 more hp than the 16v

since suspension tuning is so out of the question....how much weight does an iron block 2.4l add over an iron block 1.6 l seriously. 50 lb? cry me a river. put a lighter hood and bumper on it and your back to square one. cry me a river.

taka's old car had a supra rear end in it, there is no way a stock gt-s or even sr5 rear end will hold up.

and why in the hell would you want to ruin a perfactly good corolla with such a POS (piece of shit) motor!! omg, you mine as well throw a ls1 in it and make the titanic complete. what a complete waste of time and money. not only will you completely ruin the handling of the car, but the fact that its the crappiest nissan motor evaRRRRR. don't listen to mikespeed, he thinks a aluminum v8 is lighter than a cast iron 4.

but back on topic, if you do this you will be gayer than all the emo fags on this board and all the clown dick mods and admins as well. lol

now what do you plan on using the car for???? if its just for drag racing then the kat would be a great way to go, then again that crappy v8 comes to mind too. if you actually plan on turning and stoping, then i would suggest an alternative. depending on your budget and how off you want to go, just do an SR or even better stay toyota. i can think of no less than 10 great (toyota) motors that would love the corolla as a home. and one prety good honda motor that would make the corolla sick. then again, you did ask for my .02, and i would think i would know more than most of this board, but take that as you may.

just for god sake DO NOT put a ka in a corolla. basically ka into corolla = www.meatspin.com
