As the Summit World Finals at Memphis International Raceway approaches – it's Oct. 20-22 – one of the IHRA's most popular promotions ever returns: The Summit SuperSeries twin dragster builds.
The Summit SuperSeries Top class champ will win a turnkey racecar, built with parts and expertise from many of the IHRA's top partners. And if that isn't enough – the Junior Dragster champion wins a new car, too.
This is the third in a series of profiles on those companies partnering with the IHRA for the twin dragster giveaway – Trick Flow, leading supplier of motorsports drivetrain components – and builder of the engine in the dragster that will be given away in Memphis.

“Ultimate bolt-on performance!” is the phrase that pays at Trick Flow Specialties, which – since it was founded in 1983 – has become the premium source for go-fast parts for IHRA drag racers from coast to coast, and beyond, from its headquarters in Tallmadge, Ohio.
Again, Trick Flow has agreed to supply the power for the Summit SuperSeries dragster – and “power” is not a term we use loosely.
Trick Flow Manager Mike Downs and his team are building a 572-cubic-inch, big block Chevrolet V-8, with the beating heart consisting of Trick Flow’s 365 PowerPort cylinder heads, camshaft and R-Series intake manifold.
Last year’s engine produced a stellar 1,071 horsepower at 7,400 rpm, and 802 foot-pounds of torque at 6,100 rpm. Don’t believe it? If you have a spare one minute and 19 seconds, you can watch that engine on the dyno here:

Trick Flow PowerPort 365 cylinder heads deliver exceptional power and competition-level durability, which is why they are perfect for this application. Features include rectangular intake runners for strong mid- to high-rpm performance, fully CNC-profiled, heart-shaped combustion chambers, CNC bowl blended valve seat transitions, 24-degree intake valve angles with four-degree side cants for additional airflow volume, adjustable guide plates, and premium quality, high-strength aluminum castings.
The heads include top-of-the-line CNC Competition Ported runners with a high resolution finish for maximum airflow and power and are assembled with the highest quality valvetrain components for ultimate endurance in all operating conditions.
“The best part of the Trick Flow engine build is that all the components used in the build are available to everyone from Summit Racing Equipment’s huge online and catalog selection,” said Downs.
“You can build the same engine that will power the 2016 National Champion for your own racing program with one click or call to Summit Racing Equipment. I think for this program it is extremely important that we show you how to make over 1,000 horsepower right out of the Summit catalog. My guys in the shop want to beat last year’s record of 1,071 horsepower, so we are going to be working hard on the tune up this time around.”
