buy a 2000 and up auto neon and throw in a srt motor/ buy an older stratus 2.4 use srt-4 internals turbo etc, and that will definately work as a auto or manual.

ok next thing i wanna know.. everywhere i look there are neons with the same problem: blown/cracked gaskets. and these are daily drivers, not racers! is that a generation problem and why? i'm assuming its a matter of proper maintenance.

it happens to all of them, the headgasket is poorly designed from the factory. my 99 bles its at 50k miles. you need a mls (mutiple layer steel) one which will last longer but still will need to be changed around 80k miles. i had a tuned stock bottom end with a stock head with crane cams and ported with a 75 shot ran 13.6 all motor (no spray) and never had a problem (until the timing belt broke (another thing to replace after 70k miles!)

theres no reason on a decent motor you shouldnt get over 100kk miles, headgasket despite what many others isnt a bad job and takes about a full day- day and a half
